W New York – Union Square Overview
First Impressions
Walking into W New York – Union Square, you immediately know you’re somewhere that takes design seriously. The lobby pulses with energy — there’s this dramatic lighting and sleek furniture that somehow manages to feel both sophisticated and approachable. I mean, it’s clearly a five-star property, but without that stuffy luxury hotel vibe that can make you feel like you need to whisper. The staff moves with purpose, and honestly, they seem to genuinely enjoy working there, which always sets the tone for a good stay.
Prime Manhattan Territory
You know what’s brilliant about this location? You’re right in New York‘s sweet spot — Union Square puts you within walking distance of practically everything that matters. The Flatiron Building is just a few blocks south, Greenwich Village spreads out to the west, and you can easily hop on multiple subway lines from Union Square station. I’ve stayed in hotels that claim great locations, but this one actually delivers. The couples who rate this area so highly (apparently 9.4 out of 10) aren’t wrong — there’s something romantic about having the city’s best neighborhoods as your backyard.
The Room Experience
The room design follows W’s signature style — bold, contemporary, with those floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city like artwork. What I appreciate is how they’ve managed to pack luxury into spaces that aren’t enormous (this is Manhattan, after all). The beds are seriously comfortable, and the bathrooms feel like personal spas with rainfall showers and high-end amenities. The blackout curtains actually work, which might sound basic but trust me, it’s not always a given in busy neighborhoods like this one. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered.
Dining and Social Spaces
The restaurant scene here reflects W’s party-meets-sophistication approach. Breakfast leans American — think elevated versions of classics rather than continental spreads. But honestly, what makes this place special is how the public spaces flow together. The lobby bar becomes this natural gathering spot where you’ll find a mix of hotel guests, local professionals, and creative types. It’s the kind of place where you might end up having an interesting conversation with a stranger, which feels very New York to me.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it captures something essential about Manhattan — that blend of luxury and accessibility, style and substance. You’re paying for more than just a place to sleep; you’re buying into an experience that feels authentically New York. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just about subway access (though that’s excellent) — it’s about being dropped into the heart of what makes this city exciting. Whether you’re here for business meetings in Midtown or weekend exploring in SoHo, everything feels reachable from Union Square. Union Square truly delivers on every front.

Everything was super comfortable. View of park was a little limited but closeness to other room was more important. The room was spacious. The shower was great. I did let water run so it would warm up.
