The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to The Beekman on Nassau Street – I mean, it’s tucked into this sort of forgotten corner of the Financial District where most tourists never venture. But stepping through those doors? Completely different world. The nine-story atrium just hits you immediately, with this incredible cast-iron architecture that makes you crane your neck up like you’re in some Victorian cathedral. It’s actually a landmarked building from the 1880s, and they’ve restored it so beautifully that you can almost hear the old-timey bustle of merchants who used to work here.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. The rooms – well, they’re not huge by modern hotel standards, but honestly, you’re not going to spend much time in there anyway when you’ve got all of lower Manhattan at your doorstep. I stayed on the seventh floor and could hear the gentle hum of the city without any of that jarring honking you get in Midtown. The bed was one of those cloud-like situations where you sink in just enough, and the bathroom had this gorgeous marble that felt substantial, not flashy. You know what I really appreciated? The little writing desk by the window – actual travelers need places to work, and they thought of that.
The restaurant downstairs, Augustine, is where locals actually eat, which tells you something. I grabbed dinner there on a Tuesday night and it was packed with people who clearly weren’t tourists – always a good sign. The service throughout the hotel has this effortless New York professionalism where they’re helpful without being overly chatty, which I prefer honestly. Location-wise, you’re a five-minute walk to Stone Street’s cobblestone bars, ten minutes to the Brooklyn Bridge, and somehow still close enough to catch a cab uptown without breaking the bank. Parking is what you’d expect in Manhattan (expensive and annoying), but the subway’s right there if you’re smart about it. The whole area gets surprisingly quiet after business hours, which means you can actually sleep even with the windows cracked open. I’d definitely come back – it’s got that rare combination of character and comfort that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even in a city where everyone thinks they know all the best spots.

We loved everything about it. The look and feel the decor gives. The location was perfect for us. The bar was always busy but never sounded loud. The food and the cocktails were amazing! The rooms felt like you were at someone's apartment which was lovely. The bed was comfortable…we loved the pillows.
