The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt feels like stepping back in time — but in the best possible way. This five-star gem sits in a gorgeous 1883 building on Nassau Street, and honestly, the nine-story atrium with its pyramidal skylight is something you have to see to believe. I mean, you’re literally standing in what used to be a Victorian-era office building, complete with cast-iron railings and brick archways that Instagram dreams are made of. The whole place has this sophisticated, old-New York energy that makes you feel like you’re part of some exclusive club.
Prime Financial District Location
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re right in the heart of the Financial District, which means Stone Street’s cobblestone restaurants are basically your backyard, and the Brooklyn Bridge is a five-minute walk away. The South Street Seaport is right there too — perfect for those morning runs along the water that actually make you feel like a real New Yorker. What I love is that couples really get this location (the ratings prove it), because there’s something undeniably romantic about wandering these historic streets together, especially when most tourists are stuck uptown fighting crowds.
The Rooms
The rooms here strike this perfect balance between luxury and livability. Mine had these huge windows that flooded the space with natural light, and the design feels distinctly New York without being gimmicky — think rich fabrics, warm wood tones, and marble bathrooms that actually have decent counter space. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m talking sink-right-in luxury), and there’s something satisfying about the way they’ve preserved original architectural details while keeping everything feeling fresh and modern. Plus, the soundproofing is solid, which matters when you’re in the middle of Manhattan.
Dining and Atmosphere
Temple Court, the hotel’s restaurant, sits right in that stunning atrium I mentioned, and it’s become quite the scene — both for hotel guests and locals who know good food. The menu leans American with some creative touches, and breakfast there feels like a proper New York experience rather than just hotel dining. What’s nice is that the whole property has this lived-in elegance; it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly precious like some luxury hotels can. The bar area gets lively in the evenings, but never overwhelmingly so.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about The Beekman — it delivers that authentic New York luxury experience without the pretension you sometimes get at other five-star properties. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems (like the best coffee spot on Stone Street or which subway entrance to use to avoid crowds). The building itself tells a story, and staying here feels like you’re part of that narrative rather than just passing through. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself lingering in the lobby just to soak up the atmosphere, and honestly, that’s exactly what a great New York hotel should make you want to do.
