The Fifty Sonesta Hotel New York Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from The Fifty Sonesta when I first walked up to it on 50th Street – honestly, it looks pretty understated from the outside, tucked between all those Midtown East office buildings. But step inside and there’s this surprisingly sleek lobby that actually feels modern without trying too hard. The front desk staff knew their stuff too, which is refreshing after dealing with some of the more touristy hotels around Times Square. They got me checked in quickly even though I showed up early, and I mean, when you’re dragging luggage through Manhattan in July, every minute counts.

The room itself was exactly what I needed – clean lines, good lighting (thank god, because so many hotels get this wrong), and a bathroom that didn’t feel like an afterthought. What really sold me though was how quiet it stayed at night. I’ve stayed in places closer to the action where you’re hearing sirens and street noise until 3 AM, but here on 50th, you’re close enough to everything without the chaos. Walking to Rockefeller Center takes maybe eight minutes, and you can actually get to Central Park pretty easily if you want to escape the concrete for a bit. The Saint Bartholomew’s Church is right there too – beautiful architecture if you’re into that sort of thing.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about good coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the concierge sent me to this little place on Lexington that locals actually use. And parking – well, it’s Midtown so it’s expensive everywhere, but they can arrange valet service that’s honestly not much more than what you’d pay at one of those sketchy garage places. The fitness center is small but functional (I mean, it’s not a resort), and room service came up hot, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often hotels mess that up. I stayed during a busy conference week in September and while the elevators got a bit slow during rush times, it never felt overcrowded or chaotic. For a solid four-star experience in one of the most convenient parts of Manhattan – without paying those ridiculous luxury hotel prices – The Fifty Sonesta delivers exactly what it promises.

It was in a great location, central for everything in Manhattan. The room was a good size with a balcony and it was clean. The lady made up the room every day and she was lovely.
Although in the centre of the city our balcony faced out onto the side of another building, which was good as it made the room very quiet. The room was a comfortable temperature. There was a hairdryer and good shampoo conditioner and shower gel. The safe was easy to use.
