The Time New York, part of JdV by Hyatt Overview

You know what? I’ve walked past The Time New York probably a hundred times before actually staying there, and honestly, I never really noticed it from the street. It’s tucked into that stretch of 49th between Broadway and 8th Avenue where everything sort of blends together in that classic Midtown chaos. But here’s the thing – that’s actually what makes it work. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Times Square (which sounds terrible but bear with me), yet when you duck inside, there’s this whole different vibe happening.

The lobby hits you with this sort of retro-futuristic thing that could’ve gone cheesy but somehow doesn’t. I mean, it’s definitely themed – they’re going for this whole time travel concept – but it feels more like a boutique hotel that happens to have a sense of humor rather than some gimmicky tourist trap. The rooms are compact, which, let’s be real, is every Manhattan hotel unless you’re dropping serious cash, but they’ve actually thought about the space. The beds are surprisingly good (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which you can’t take for granted in older NYC buildings. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being that close to the theater district would mean constant noise, but they’ve got solid windows and the building itself seems to buffer a lot of the street chaos.

Here’s what actually sold me on the place: the staff knows the neighborhood in that way that matters when you’re trying to navigate Midtown without looking like a total tourist. They steered me toward a great little coffee spot on 50th that I never would’ve found, and when I mentioned wanting to grab dinner somewhere that wasn’t a chain or a tourist trap, they had actual opinions – not just the usual scripted recommendations. The location really does work if you’re seeing shows (you can literally walk to most theaters in under ten minutes), but it’s also weirdly convenient for getting anywhere else in the city. The subway situation is solid – you’ve got multiple lines within a few blocks, and if you need to grab a cab or rideshare, you’re never waiting long in this area. Look, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, and if you’re expecting some luxury resort experience, you’ll be disappointed. But for what it is – a solid, well-run hotel with personality in one of the most useful locations in Manhattan – it delivers. The whole JdV by Hyatt thing means you get consistent service standards without the corporate sterility, which is honestly the sweet spot for this kind of place.

  • John from United States (7/10)

This is a really nice property. It has an intimate feel and despite being close to theatres, it is quiet. The room was small, but functional. Because we were traveling for business, the housekeeper gladly provided us with additional hangers. The toiletries in the bathroom were great and the room was very clean. This hotel is close to everything ! On the first morning we were foraging for coffee and the bellman walked us to a great bakery close by. The bar serves wine and cheese at 5 pm which was a nice perk. It has great lounge seating and an overall amazing feel. The staff really takes this hotel to a higher level. They were very friendly and always helpful.

The location of the hotel is incredible. Probably one of the best streets near Times Square. The street is safe enough even for walking at night. We are glad that we chose this hotel. It is located right opposite Chicago Musical. On the day of our arrival, this street was closed and the taxi could not drive directly to the hotel, it stopped 30-40 meters away, since that day a movie was being filmed in front of the hotel. The hotel rooms have quite an interesting design. Our group of three people booked two rooms and we asked to place the rooms next to each other if possible. When we entered our rooms, one of the rooms had a damp smell and we had to go back to the reception and ask for a change. There were no free rooms at that time and we had to wait an additional two hours to get a room. As a result, the rooms were on different floors, but this was not a problem for us because the elevators in the hotel are very fast. I want to note that the hotel reception is very responsive and tries to satisfy all requests, especially the woman from India.
