I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the SpringHill Suites on West 36th, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into Hell’s Kitchen in this sort of understated way, but once you’re inside, the whole vibe shifts. The lobby actually feels modern and spacious, which is saying something for Manhattan, and the staff at check-in seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions.

What really won me over was how they’ve thought about the little things that matter when you’re staying in the city. The suites – and they’re actual suites, not just hotel rooms with a fancy name – have these separate living areas that make all the difference when you need to spread out after a long day of walking around. You know what’s great? The kitchenette setup. I mean, you’re not going to cook Thanksgiving dinner, but having a real fridge and microwave means you can actually save some money on breakfast instead of dropping $25 on hotel coffee and a croissant. The beds are comfortable too, though honestly, after walking 15 miles through the city, I probably would’ve slept well on concrete.

Location-wise, this is where they really nailed it. You’re right in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you can walk to the Theater District in about five minutes, but you’re far enough south of the real Times Square chaos that it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping inside a neon sign. I loved being able to grab dinner at one of those tiny family-run places on 9th Avenue – there’s this little Thai spot two blocks over that locals actually go to, not just tourists. The subway access is solid too; you’ve got the N, Q, R, and W lines at 34th Street, plus you can walk to Penn Station if you need to catch a train out of the city. Parking is expensive (this is Manhattan, after all), but they do have valet service if you’re driving, though honestly, I’d recommend just flying in and using the subway. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Plaza or anything, but for what most people actually need when they’re visiting New York, it delivers without the pretentious markup you get at some of the fancier places closer to Central Park.

  Superb location just 5 minutes walk to Penn Station, and a similar distance to Times Square. Not on a main avenue so it was nice and quiet too. Comfy bed and a nice bathroom. Lovely, well appointed rooms. Really helpful and polite staff.
