You know what caught me off guard about the INNSiDE by Meliá? It’s tucked right there on West 27th Street, and honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing this sleek glass facade was actually my hotel. The Nomad area has this interesting vibe where you’re technically in Chelsea but you’re getting all the benefits of being crazy close to both the Flatiron District and actual Chelsea without the tourist chaos of Times Square.

The lobby has this industrial-chic thing going on – exposed brick, high ceilings, but not in that trying-too-hard way some boutique places do. Check-in was surprisingly smooth, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood when I asked about late-night food options (there’s a solid Korean BBQ spot two blocks down on 29th that they pointed me to). My room was on the 12th floor, and I mean, the views aren’t going to make your Instagram explode, but you get these interesting glimpses of the city that feel more authentic somehow. The bed was legitimately comfortable – like, I-actually-slept-well comfortable, which doesn’t always happen in NYC hotels. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, though if you’re traveling with someone who takes forever getting ready, you might be doing that awkward dance around each other.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being on a pretty active street. Twenty-seventh between Broadway and Sixth Avenue gets foot traffic, but the windows do their job. The neighborhood itself is perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in New York rather than just visiting it – you’ve got the subway right there at 28th Street (the R and W lines, which honestly get you most places you need to go), Madison Square Park is a ten-minute walk for your morning coffee run, and you’re close enough to the Village that you can wander down there without it being a whole production. I noticed a lot of business travelers staying here, probably because you can walk to most Midtown meetings but still grab dinner somewhere that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap. The hotel bar gets busy around 6 PM with a mix of guests and locals, which I always take as a good sign. One small thing – parking is street parking or expensive garages, so if you’re driving in, factor that into your budget. But honestly, why would you drive in Manhattan anyway? The 8.5 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it nails the stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to get some sleep and explore the city without breaking the bank.

The hotel also held our suitcase after we checked out so we could walk around the city for the morning.
