Redford Hotel Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Redford Hotel – it’s one of those places that grows on you, especially if you actually want to experience the Lower East Side instead of just passing through it. When I first walked up to 136 Ludlow Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unassuming three-star spot, but honestly? It turned out to be exactly what I needed.
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally in the thick of everything that makes the LES interesting. I mean, you’ve got Katz’s Delicatessen just a few blocks down (and trust me, you’ll smell the pastrami before you see the neon sign), and all those vintage shops and galleries scattered along Orchard and Rivington are basically your neighbors. The hotel itself sits on Ludlow, which – if you know the area – means you’re going to hear some street life, especially on weekend nights when people are bar-hopping between Economy Candy and the various dive bars. It’s not exactly quiet, but it’s authentic New York noise, you know? The kind that actually helps you sleep after a while.
What surprised me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. The guy at the front desk (I think his name was Marcus?) didn’t just give me the usual tourist map routine – he actually told me which subway entrance to use for different lines and mentioned that the bodega on the corner stays open late if I needed anything. Small stuff, but it matters when you’re trying to navigate a city. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d expect for a solid three-star in Manhattan. Clean, compact, with that slightly worn-in feel that suggests they’ve hosted plenty of travelers but haven’t given up on maintenance. The AC worked great during my summer stay, which honestly was my biggest concern. I will say the WiFi was surprisingly strong – I actually got work done from the tiny desk by the window, watching people navigate the sidewalk below while video-calling my team back home.
Here’s the thing though – if you’re looking for a spa experience or room service menus, this isn’t your spot. The Redford is more about location and getting decent sleep between exploring sessions. There’s a coffee shop literally next door that opens early (around 6 AM, I think), and you’re a short walk from some of the best food in the city. I grabbed dinner at Clinton St. Baking Company one night and breakfast at Russ & Daughters another morning – both easy walks that made me feel like I was staying in an actual neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble. The hotel’s 7.8 rating feels about right to me; it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but it delivers on the basics while dropping you into one of Manhattan’s most character-filled areas. If you’re the type who wants to explore rather than lounge, and you don’t mind a little urban energy outside your window, the Redford makes a lot of sense.

Reviews of Redford Hotel

This was an important trip, but finding a hotel became the main deciding point if I was going or not, having been to Manhattan in the past, as well as having an idea of how much it would hurt my pockets. Luckily, my mom found Redford Hotel for me and I immediately booked it. Thanks to Redford, the trip did happen and it became the best memory of my life.

Location was great, room was very clean and comfortable. It was great for 2 people – it's New York, rooms aren't going to be huge! The room and linens were so clean. We had a great stay.
