You know what? I was honestly surprised by La Quinta Time Square South – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you hear “La Quinta” and “Times Square,” you might picture some tired chain hotel packed with screaming tourists, but this place actually gets it right. It’s tucked away on West 38th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you’re close enough to walk to all the Broadway madness (literally three blocks) but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the Elmo costume characters and knockoff purse vendors right outside your window.

The location is sort of perfect, honestly. You’ve got 9th Avenue right there with all those amazing little restaurants – I mean, you can grab legitimate Thai food at 2 AM or hit up one of those old-school delis that still knows how to make a proper pastrami sandwich. The hotel itself feels more boutique than chain, if that makes sense. The lobby has this warm, modern vibe without trying too hard, and the staff actually seems to know the neighborhood – they pointed me toward this incredible Cuban place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird upselling tactics or anything like that.

The rooms are clean and well-designed, though definitely compact (this is Manhattan, after all). But here’s the thing – they’ve used the space really smartly. The bathroom actually has decent water pressure, which honestly shocked me because half the hotels in this area have showers that feel like someone’s spitting on you. The beds are comfortable, and most importantly for a Times Square area hotel, the windows actually block out street noise pretty well. I stayed on the 7th floor and could barely hear the typical Hell’s Kitchen symphony of sirens and garbage trucks. There’s a fitness center that’s small but functional – nothing fancy, just the basics if you need to burn off all those New York bagels. The whole place has this efficient, no-nonsense feel that works really well for the area. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or concierges in top hats; you’re paying for a solid, comfortable base camp in one of the best neighborhoods in the city. And honestly, at that 8.5 rating, it’s earning every point – this is exactly what a good city hotel should be.

  The hotel is very centrally located, just a few minutes walk from Times Square. As a base for exploring Manhattan, the location was brilliant. We also liked the breakfast room and breakfast selection with DIY waffles, bagels, cereals, eggs, pastries, yogurt, fruit and more on offer every morning. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming.

  Staff was super friendly, especially front desk and breakfast staff.
  Location was amazing couple steps from Times square and Bryant park. Pretty safe area, lobby door are locked all the time which makes it feel even more safe.
  Rooms are small but you get everything you need and if you are in NYC you are not there to spend time in your room.
