Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden Overview
Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden – it’s one of those places that punches above its weight class simply because of where it sits. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Penn Station, which sounds chaotic (and honestly, it can be), but here’s the thing: you’ll never worry about catching a train or getting to the airport. The street noise? Well, it’s 31st Street in Manhattan, so yeah, you’ll hear some traffic, but the windows are actually pretty decent at keeping the worst of it out.
What really surprised me was how they’ve managed to carve out this little pocket of calm in the middle of absolute madness. The lobby’s nothing fancy – think clean, efficient, with that Hampton Inn vibe you either love or find completely forgettable – but the staff actually knows the neighborhood. I mean, they’ll tell you which entrance to use for MSG (the one on 8th Avenue, not the tourist trap on 7th), and they know that Koreatown starts literally around the corner on 32nd Street. Speaking of which, you’re about to have some of the best late-night Korean BBQ of your life just a block away, which is something I definitely didn’t expect when I first booked this place.
The rooms are… well, they’re Hampton Inn rooms, you know? Nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything works, the beds are actually comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean with decent water pressure – which, honestly, is more than you can say for some places in this price range in Manhattan. I stayed on the 8th floor and could see a sliver of the Empire State Building if I pressed my face against the window and looked left, which felt like a little bonus. The real win here is that you’re in Chelsea without paying Chelsea hotel prices, and you can walk to basically everything – Herald Square, Times Square if you must, the High Line’s not that far, and you’ve got subway access that’ll get you anywhere in the city in under 30 minutes.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me: the elevators can be slow during peak times (everyone’s rushing to catch trains), and if you’re driving, forget about it – park elsewhere and take the subway in. But if you’re flying into JFK or LaGuardia, this place makes so much sense it’s almost ridiculous. You take the AirTrain to Penn Station and you’re basically home. For a 3-star place with a 7.5 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a city that’s constantly trying to oversell you on everything.

It was perfect for a one night stay, even 2 or 3 nights. But only for 1 or 2 people. It was too small for any more.

Excellent, professional, and friendly desk staff. We were touring FIT and the hotel kept our luggage for us after checkout so we didn't have to worry about it. Great location for touring FIT. Close access to the trains. Walkable to Hamburger America. Nice breakfast and seating area, even with a lot of people in there.
Jocelyn from United States (9/10)
Good, central location and close to the 34th street subway station. From check-in, every employee we encountered was very nice which is a rarity in NYC. The room was clean and the breakfast was a nice selection.
