Inn at Glencairn Overview
First Impressions
The Inn at Glencairn sits on Lawrenceville Road like it’s been there forever — which, honestly, feels about right for this part of Princeton. You know what struck me first? It’s not trying to be something it isn’t. This four-star property has that understated elegance that actually works better than flashy lobbies and over-the-top everything. The building itself has character, and when you’re pulling into the driveway, there’s this immediate sense that you’ve found something a bit special without the pretense.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying on Lawrenceville Road — you’re close enough to Princeton University and downtown to feel connected, but far enough out to avoid the chaos during reunion weekends or when parents are visiting. I mean, couples absolutely love this spot (they rate it 9.5, which honestly makes sense), and it’s because you get that peaceful feeling while still being able to walk or drive into town easily. The parking situation is refreshingly simple too — free and right on site, which anyone who’s tried to park near campus will appreciate.
The Room Experience
My room had this comfortable, lived-in elegance that felt more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s house than a generic hotel. The furnishings aren’t cutting-edge modern, but they’re thoughtful and well-maintained. What I really appreciated were the little touches — good lighting for reading, actual space to spread out your stuff, and windows that let in real light. The bathrooms are clean and functional without being spa-like, which sort of fits the whole vibe of the place.
Breakfast Worth Mentioning
Breakfast here actually surprised me in the best way. They’ve got this range that covers pretty much everyone — continental basics, but also vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. It’s served in a space that feels more like a cozy dining room than a hotel breakfast area, and the staff seems to genuinely care about getting it right. You’re not rushing through a buffet line; you can actually sit and ease into your day, which is rarer than it should be.
Why Guests Love It
Look, the Inn at Glencairn isn’t going to blow you away with amenities or make you feel like you’re in some design magazine. What it does is provide exactly what you need without the fuss — a comfortable place to stay that feels authentic to Princeton’s character. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s the kind of place that gets the basics so right that you don’t notice what’s missing. Whether you’re visiting the university, exploring central New Jersey, or just need a peaceful base for a few days, this place delivers on its promises without overselling itself.

Love the historic home and the beautiful room. I had a wonderful visit. The room was spacious, and homey, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. The hospitality was 5 stars, the Inn Keeper was lovely, she provided wonderful amenities and cooked the most delicious breakfast. I felt very comfortable and enjoyed my time in the Inn and on the property. Great location too, it was nice visiting Princeton.

Old house from 1750’s. Maintains that charm. Lydia prepares a lovely breakfast and jams. She is very warm and experienced

I loved the beautifully restored and wonderful proportions of the very old interior rooms. There is also a spacious exterior space with a lawn barn and producing bee hives. It feels casually comfortable. The manager/chef is a great asset with help with a problem, answers to questions and suggestions for things to do-plus exceptional creative breakfasts!

You feel like you are living 300 years ago but with all the conveniences of modern day. The breakfasts and Lydia the innkeeper were superb.
