Hotel Giraffe by Library Hotel Collection Overview
You know what struck me first about Hotel Giraffe? It’s that perfect sweet spot where you feel like you’ve discovered something special without it being all stuffy and pretentious. Walking up to the entrance on Park Avenue South, I was honestly expecting another generic midtown hotel, but this place has actual personality. The lobby hits you with this warm, sort of literary vibe – makes sense since it’s part of the Library Hotel Collection – and you can tell they put thought into every corner instead of just ordering furniture from some hotel catalog.
The location is honestly brilliant, and I mean that in a way most people don’t realize until they’re actually staying there. You’re right in NoMad, which – if you haven’t spent much time in this neighborhood – is like Manhattan’s best-kept secret for people who want to be in the thick of things without the Times Square chaos. Madison Square Park is literally around the corner (perfect for morning coffee runs), and you’re walking distance to some seriously good restaurants that locals actually go to. The Flatiron Building is right there if you want that classic New York photo, but more importantly, you can grab the 6 train at 28th Street or hop on the N/Q/R at 28th and Broadway. I’ve stayed in plenty of places where getting anywhere felt like a production – this isn’t one of them.
What really won me over though was how they handle the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Manhattan, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with enough space to actually unpack and settle in. The beds are legitimately comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and honestly, the whole place is quieter than you’d expect for being right on Park Avenue South. I was worried about street noise, but their windows do their job. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about a good spot for dinner that wasn’t touristy, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic list – he asked what I was in the mood for and gave me actual directions to a place three blocks away that ended up being perfect.
Look, it’s not the fanciest hotel in the city, but that 8.9 rating makes total sense once you spend a night or two there. It’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right – comfortable, well-located, run by people who seem to care – without trying to be something it’s not. If you’re looking for a rooftop pool and a marble lobby, go somewhere else. But if you want a solid base for exploring the city that feels more like staying at a well-designed friend’s place than a corporate hotel, Hotel Giraffe gets it right.

Linda from Canada (9/10)
Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was incredible. They were always helpful and recommended some excellent restaurants nearby. Loved the continental breakfast and the grab and go snacks throughout the day. Enjoyed cappuccinos in the evening while sitting in the decorated lobby area with Christmas music. It was nice and relaxing after a long day walking the city.

Just about everything was wonderful. Warm, attentive staff from front dest, to bellmen, to morning breakfast and housekeeping. Love the large sitting area in the lobby, which serves both as breakfast area but also a place just to relax and enjoy the 24 hour snacks and coffee/tea offerings. The rooms are nicely appointed and warmly decorated. Bed was very comfortable and liked that there as a chair and ottoman in addition to the desk chair. Great closet and drawer storage. Nice bathroom and related amenities, including abundant towels and bathrobes (2). And overall quiet. The continental breakfast was excellent with bagels, breads for toast, an assortment of quality pastries, fruit and juices. There were boxed cereals though I wish they offered at least a more healthy cereal option (granola or muesli) rather than the typical sugar-loaded brands. But overall, it was well done. Finally, we loved the location as we walked or rode the subway all over the city.
