You know what struck me first about Element Times Square West? It’s actually tucked away on 39th Street in a way that feels almost sneaky – like you’re getting the Times Square experience without the complete chaos right outside your door. I mean, you’re still in Hell’s Kitchen, so there’s plenty of energy, but you can walk two blocks east and boom, you’re in the thick of it all, or head west toward the Hudson and things get surprisingly quiet.

The lobby has this modern, slightly industrial vibe that honestly works better than I expected. It’s not trying too hard to be fancy – more like that friend’s apartment who works in tech and has really good taste but doesn’t make a big deal about it. Check-in was smooth, and I appreciated that the front desk staff actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about good spots for coffee that weren’t Starbucks, they pointed me toward Ninth Avenue without hesitation, which tells me they get asked real questions by real people, not just “where’s Times Square?” The rooms are clean and smart – everything’s where it should be, outlets in the right places, decent water pressure. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up thinking about the mattress, which is honestly my benchmark for hotel sleeping. There’s this whole health-conscious thing going on (they’re part of that Element brand that’s into wellness), so you’ll find a decent fitness center and they push the healthy breakfast options, but it doesn’t feel preachy about it.

What I really liked was how it sits in the neighborhood – 39th Street puts you right in that sweet spot where you can grab amazing Thai food on Ninth Avenue, walk to Bryant Park when you need a breather from the city intensity, or catch a show without taking the subway. The Port Authority is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you don’t deal with that particular brand of Port Authority energy all the time. Honestly, if you’re here for typical tourist stuff, you’ll save money on Ubers because most of what you want is walkable, and if you’re here for work, you’re probably close enough to wherever you need to be. The neighborhood gets a little gritty – I mean, it’s still Hell’s Kitchen – but it’s the good kind of gritty where you feel like you’re in actual New York, not some sanitized version of it. Street noise is manageable, though if you’re sensitive to city sounds, pack earplugs because 39th Street does have traffic. For a 4-star place, it delivers on being comfortable and well-located without trying to be something it’s not, which I found refreshing in an area where a lot of hotels are either budget nightmares or overpriced because they slapped “Times Square” in the name.
