The Wallace Hotel Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Manhattan, and honestly? The Wallace Hotel caught me off guard in the best way possible. Walking up to 242 West 76th Street, you’re not expecting much from the outside – it’s this elegant pre-war building that sort of blends into the Upper West Side’s tree-lined charm, but once you step inside, you get it. The lobby has this understated sophistication that feels more like a well-appointed apartment building than a typical hotel, which I mean, works perfectly for the neighborhood.
What really sold me on this place is how it actually fits into the Upper West Side rather than fighting against it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the 79th Street subway entrance, and I’m talking about the kind of two minutes where you’re not dodging tourists or street vendors – just a pleasant stroll past those classic brownstones everyone pictures when they think of NYC residential life. The staff clearly knows the area too, and I don’t mean they’ll hand you a generic tourist map. When I asked about good coffee, the concierge sent me to this tiny place on Amsterdam Avenue that I never would’ve found otherwise. That’s the kind of local knowledge that actually matters.
The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d hope for but rarely get in New York. Mine faced the street, and you know what? Even with windows open, the noise level was totally manageable. Maybe it’s because this stretch of 76th is mostly residential, or maybe the building just has good bones, but I slept better here than I do at most Midtown hotels. The space feels designed by someone who’s actually lived in small New York apartments – everything has a purpose, nothing’s wasted, but it doesn’t feel cramped or overly precious about it. I particularly loved that they gave me actual drawer space and enough outlets near the bed (seriously, why is that so rare?).
Here’s what I really appreciate though – the Wallace doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s not throwing around words like “luxury” every five seconds, but the 9.3 rating makes sense when you’re there. The service is attentive without being hovering, the common areas are comfortable without being showy, and the whole place just feels… right for where it is. If you’re someone who wants to experience New York like you actually live here rather than just visit, this is your spot. Plus, and this is huge – Riverside Park is basically your backyard, which means you’ve got that gorgeous stretch along the Hudson for morning runs or evening walks. I found myself taking the long way back to the hotel just because the neighborhood is that pleasant to wander through.

Amazing property in the UWS that is worth every penny! We spent a long weekend at the Wallace Hotel in December and we could not have been happier with our stay.
Arrived early in the morning and our room was not yet ready, but they held our luggage while we went out to explore. The front desk promised to call us if the room opened earlier than the 3pm check-in and they left us a message around noon that we could get into our room. The rooms are extremely clean and very spacious for NYC. Everything about this hotel feels new, chic and just all around comfortable. I am very particular about hotel cleanliness and I can honestly say I have NEVER felt more comfortable than at The Wallace.
They also have a gorgeous lounge on the first floor that gets very busy at night. Be sure to make a reservation for it! We wanted to get a drink on our way out but both nights it was completely booked.Robert from United States (10/10)

Friendly and helpful staff. Clean facilities and the accessible room is perfect for our elderly aunt with limited mobility. Location is safe and just a few blocks away from Columbus Circle, Central Park, Lincoln Centre. Many food choices around the area.

Just luxurious enough, with robes, slippers, automatic shades, nice bathroom products … The bed was comfortable; the room quiet. We enjoyed the Nespresso machine and the lighting technology in the room. The push-button “do not disturb” function is cool. Front desk personnel were kind; elevators are quick. The bar downstairs was hopping. Seems like a place to be for even non-hotel patrons. There are a few cute boutiques in the vicinity, and a selection of nice restaurants. We loved Maison Pickle for brunch, and Black Press Coffee for joe. The 72nd Street MTA stop is about a 5 or 6 minute walk away, which makes for a rather easy journey downtown.
