The Room Experience

The rooms here are cleverly designed — Virgin calls them “Chambers,” and they’ve actually thought about how people really use hotel rooms. There’s a separate dressing area (genius for couples getting ready), and the bathroom has this cool red mood lighting that somehow works. The beds are comfortable, and I mean really comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable. You’ll find charging stations everywhere, which is clutch when you’re constantly using your phone to navigate the city. The windows are big enough to give you decent city views, though don’t expect Central Park vistas at this price point.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar scene is where Virgin Hotels New York City really shines. Commons Club serves breakfast with both Continental and American options — the American breakfast is solid, though honestly, with so many great breakfast spots in NoMad, you might want to venture out sometimes. The rooftop bar, Everdene, has become a bit of a scene, and for good reason. The views are fantastic, and the cocktails are well-crafted without being pretentious. I’ve seen both hotel guests and locals hanging out here, which always feels like a good sign.
