TownePlace Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Chelsea Overview

You know what caught me off guard about TownePlace Suites Chelsea? It’s actually got this calm, residential vibe despite being smack in the middle of one of Manhattan’s busiest neighborhoods. I mean, you’re literally on 28th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue – prime real estate where the Fashion District bleeds into Chelsea proper – but somehow they’ve managed to create this little oasis that doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping inside a subway station.

The suites themselves are honestly pretty clever. Not huge by any stretch (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’ve got that extended-stay layout with actual kitchenettes that work. I’m talking full-size fridges, not those tiny hotel minibars, and decent counter space where you can actually prep some food. Which comes in handy because while you’re surrounded by amazing restaurants – I spotted at least three solid Korean BBQ spots within two blocks, plus that legendary Shake Shack on 23rd – eating out for every meal in this city will drain your wallet faster than you think. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, though I did notice some street noise on the lower floors facing 28th. Nothing terrible, just that constant Manhattan hum of delivery trucks and the occasional siren. Ask for a higher floor if you’re a light sleeper.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location intel you don’t get from most hotel sites. You’re a five-minute walk from the 28th Street R/W station, which puts you one stop from Union Square and gets you to Midtown in minutes. But here’s the thing locals know – that station can get pretty crowded during rush hour, so there’s also the 23rd Street F/M station just a few blocks south that’s usually less insane. Plus you’re right in the sweet spot between the High Line entrance at 23rd Street and all the gallery action in the Chelsea art district. I actually stumbled onto some incredible street art just wandering around the neighborhood after checking in. The front desk staff seemed to know their stuff too – they pointed me toward Joe Coffee on 23rd for decent caffeine and warned me about the weekend farmers market crowds at Union Square (honestly appreciated that heads up). Parking’s typical Manhattan expensive if you’re driving, but there’s a garage literally next door if you need it. Overall, it feels like staying in a neighborhood rather than just crashing in a tourist zone, which is getting harder and harder to find in Manhattan these days.

Reviews of TownePlace Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Chelsea

  • Neira from Bosnia and Herzegovina (9/10)

This hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff was lovely, the breakfast is not great, but it is enough to save some money in NYC, and the location was absolutely perfect. We managed to walk to all sightseeing locations.

  • Eline from Netherlands (8/10)

We loved staying in this hotel because of its conventient location in the middle of Manhattan and near the metro line. I was a bit apprehensive before because of supposed long waiting times for elevators and breakfast but we didnt have any issues for the most part. Breakfast had good options also for vegetarians. Room was cleaned every day and pretty quiet. Only noise was from ambulances or when people were talking loudy in the hallway. Friendly personal. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in Manhattan!

  • Stephen from Ireland (9/10)

The staff were very helpful, location was ideal. We would highly recommend this hotel.!

  • Laurence from Belgium (7/10)

    – We loved the location. It is very central, there is a subway nearby, loads of shops, restaurants, rooftop bars.
    – Since it was my boyfriends' birthday they upgraded us to a room on the 21st level (it was not the top floor like they said in advance but it was still nice of them to check for a higher room – the view was ok but not what we expected though. The building is in fact way higher, but that was another hotel apparently).
    – The room was clean and not too small. Great for a longer stay. We had a small kitchen, coffee, a fridge. And the bathroom was nice.
    – Most people of the staff were nice and helpful.

  • Sven from Australia (7/10)

Friendly personnel, very good cleaning services, very good location.

  • Ben from Israel (9/10)

Room was super clean, very well maintained. We didn't have any street noise and we felt that the noise isolation in our room was good.
We liked the bed and the room service (cleaning) worked every day, it was great! Also the shower was super comfortable with everything we needed and great quality towels.
