The Standard, High Line New York Overview
You know what struck me first about The Standard High Line? It’s that moment when you walk up Washington Street and see this sleek glass tower just sort of hovering over the cobblestones – honestly, it shouldn’t work in this part of the Village, but somehow it absolutely does. I mean, you’ve got these old warehouse buildings and then boom, there’s this modern hotel that feels like it landed from the future. The lobby hits different too – they’ve got this whole industrial-chic thing going with concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re in some cool art installation rather than just checking into a hotel.
What really gets me about this place is how they nailed the location without making a big deal about it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the High Line entrance (the one at Gansevoort, not the crazy crowded 14th Street entrance), which honestly makes all the difference when you want to catch sunrise up there before the tourists descend. The Meatpacking District is right at your doorstep, so you can stumble to places like Pastis or that little coffee spot Birch – locals know it, tourists haven’t discovered it yet. But here’s the thing nobody tells you: the rooms facing west give you these incredible Hudson River views, especially if you’re on a higher floor. I watched the sunset paint the water golden while sipping coffee in my underwear, which is peak New York hotel experience if you ask me.
The vibe inside is sort of effortlessly cool without trying too hard – you’ll see fashion people in the lobby (it’s that kind of neighborhood), but it never feels pretentious. The Standard Grill downstairs actually serves decent food, not just hotel restaurant garbage, and their burger is legitimately good. Fair warning though: weekends can get pretty lively since they host events, so if you’re looking for complete quiet, maybe request a higher floor or visit during the week. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood, which is rarer than you’d think – they pointed me toward this tiny wine bar on Little West 12th that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they store luggage without making it feel like you’re asking for a kidney. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that matters in the city, not just crashing in any random hotel room.

Room was great and had the most amazing view! The staff were so kind and helpful, and upgraded us free of charge. The location is very cool, close to some amazing bars and restaurants, and away from the direct craziness/touristy parts like Times Square etc.
