The Mercer Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Mercer feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly well-appointed private residence — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and a serious budget. This five-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of SoHo, and honestly, the location couldn’t be more perfect. The building itself is this gorgeous red-brick Romanesque Revival structure from 1890, and they’ve managed to preserve all that historic charm while making everything feel completely contemporary.
The SoHo Experience
You know what’s great about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by some of the best shopping, dining, and people-watching in New York. I mean, step outside and you’ve got cobblestone streets lined with cast-iron buildings, high-end boutiques, and those little galleries that make SoHo so special. The couples who stay here absolutely love it — and I get why, because there’s something romantic about wandering these streets together, ducking into a wine bar or stumbling upon some tiny art installation. Plus, you’re walking distance to Little Italy, Nolita, and the Village, which gives you options without having to deal with too much subway time.
The Room
The rooms here are something else entirely — spacious by Manhattan standards and designed with this perfect mix of modern comfort and classic elegance. Each room feels like a loft apartment, with high ceilings, oversized windows, and these beautiful hardwood floors. The beds are seriously comfortable (I actually understand why people keep coming back just for the sleep quality), and the marble bathrooms feel almost spa-like. What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to make everything feel residential rather than hotel-y — there’s custom furniture, original artwork, and enough space to actually unpack and settle in.
Dining and Atmosphere
The Mercer Kitchen downstairs is run by Jean-Georges, and while it’s not cheap, the food is consistently excellent. The restaurant has this underground, almost cave-like atmosphere that somehow manages to feel both intimate and energetic. Even if you don’t eat there, it’s worth grabbing a drink at the bar — it’s become sort of a scene for stylish locals and hotel guests alike. The service throughout the hotel strikes that perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive, which honestly can be hard to find in New York.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason people keep returning to The Mercer — it’s got this rare combination of prime location, genuine comfort, and understated sophistication that’s hard to replicate. The staff remembers your preferences, the neighborhood never gets old, and you feel like you’re experiencing the real New York rather than some sanitized tourist version. It’s not the flashiest hotel in the city, but it might just be one of the most satisfying places to stay, especially if you want to feel like a temporary SoHo resident rather than just another visitor passing through.
The concierge service in New York arranges front-row Broadway seats, gallery previews, and private skyline yacht dinners.

Everything. The attention to detail was exceptional & the team displayed outstanding customer service. The best example of this was on arrival by taxi, my card was rejected for payment & I didn't have sufficient cash. Doorman Jacob suddenly appeared & paid with his own money to settle the fair. Just incredible!
