New York Marriott Marquis Overview
You know what hits you first when you walk into the New York Marriott Marquis? It’s not the lobby – it’s actually the fact that you’re suddenly above all the Times Square chaos. The entrance is on the second floor, which honestly feels like a weird design choice until you realize it’s genius. You step off Broadway and boom, you’re floating above the madness instead of fighting through it.
This place is massive – I mean, we’re talking 49 floors and nearly 2,000 rooms massive. The elevators are these glass capsules that zip you up through the center of the building, and yeah, it’s a bit touristy but also kind of fun if you’re not in a rush. Speaking of rushes, the lobby can get absolutely packed during peak times (think December holidays or summer weekends), so factor that into your check-in timing. The staff handles it pretty well though – they’ve clearly done this dance before.
What I actually love about staying here is how it puts you right in the beating heart of everything without making you feel like you’re camping on the street. Your room windows look out over the neon jungle, but the soundproofing is surprisingly decent for a building this old. I mean, you’ll still hear some street noise – this is Times Square, not a monastery – but it’s not the honking nightmare you might expect. The rooms themselves are typical Marriott reliable, nothing groundbreaking but clean and comfortable with those crisp white sheets that actually stay white. The bathrooms are compact but functional, though the water pressure is honestly better than half the boutique hotels in the city.
Here’s something most people don’t think about – the location is both the best and worst thing about this place. Best because you’re literally steps from Broadway shows, and I mean literally – the TKTS booth is right there, and you can walk to most theaters in under five minutes. Worst because good luck finding decent food that isn’t overpriced tourist trap garbage within a three-block radius. But here’s the insider move: walk east toward Ninth Avenue, maybe ten minutes tops, and you’ll hit Hell’s Kitchen where the real restaurants are. The hotel’s restaurant is fine for breakfast if you’re feeling lazy, but don’t expect miracles.
Parking is going to cost you – this is Midtown Manhattan, so just accept that reality upfront. The valet service is smooth though, and honestly, if you’re staying here you probably don’t need a car anyway. The subway is right there (Times Square-42nd Street station is basically underneath you), and taxis are… well, they’re everywhere, though good luck during rush hour.
The thing is, this hotel knows exactly what it is. It’s not trying to be some hip boutique spot or a stuffy luxury palace. It’s a solid, professional operation that gets you close to everything you probably came to New York to see. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it delivers on its promises without any major surprises, good or bad. If you want to be in the thick of Times Square energy but still have a reliable place to crash, it’s hard to beat.

Breakfast was just fine. Nothing special but everything was there. But definitely there is lot of five star hotels with so much better breakfast buffet.
