The Historic Blue Moon Hotel – NYC Overview
You know what struck me first about The Historic Blue Moon Hotel? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet stretch of the Lower East Side where you can still hear the city humming around you, but it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping inside a taxi cab. I mean, finding a four-star place in this neighborhood that doesn’t cost your firstborn is pretty solid – especially when you’re literally a five-minute walk from some of the best late-night eats on Ludlow Street.
The building itself has this old-school New York charm that developers haven’t managed to scrub away yet. Walking through the lobby, you get hints of what this area used to be like before it became all artisanal everything. The rooms are honestly better than I expected for the price point – they’ve managed to squeeze in actual space (well, actual by Manhattan standards) and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. What I really appreciated was the attention to soundproofing; you’re not going to be kept up by every siren or late-night conversation on the street below. The bathrooms are compact but functional, and they’ve invested in decent water pressure, which… if you’ve stayed in older NYC hotels, you know that’s not always a given.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t going to be your glossy, everything-is-perfect hotel experience. The elevator makes interesting noises, and sometimes the front desk gets a bit overwhelmed during busy periods (I checked in during a particularly hectic Friday evening and waited maybe ten minutes). But honestly? That’s part of what I liked about it. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – they pointed me toward this incredible Dominican place two blocks over that I never would have found otherwise, and when I asked about getting to Brooklyn, the concierge gave me the real subway advice, not the tourist route. You’re also right in the heart of some serious food culture here. I’m talking about being able to grab genuine dumplings at 2 AM or hitting up the weekend markets without having to plan your whole day around transportation. Plus, if you’re into the nightlife scene, you’ve got everything from dive bars to craft cocktail spots within walking distance. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s a solid choice that delivers on what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad. For the money and the location, especially if you want to actually experience this part of the city rather than just pass through it, The Blue Moon does the job well.

Reviews of The Historic Blue Moon Hotel – NYC

Incredibly charming hotel in an amazing area. This isn't a 5* Luxury resort on a private island; it's a historic building in the bustling and exciting cultural centre of New York run by real people and not a massive corporation. I always love my stays here. The hotel has everything that I like for a longer stay: large bed, large TV, good size fridge (not minibar), bathtub and fast Wifi. The rooms and hotel have a lot of character. Wonderful staff: friendly and can never help enough. I love it here; I can see why some reviewers are disappointed as the neighbourhood is, of course, noisy, and the hotel as a historic building has its quirks, but if you're looking for a real New York experience, then this is a great place to stay.

Small boutique hotel, great detail, comfortable room.

The hotel was filled with charm and character. My room was large and I loved the vibe – the light, the windows that opened, the shutters, the massive bed and deep bath.
It was surprisingly quiet and very dark – I had a great sleep.
While the entry area and staff aren’t slick they are friendly and helpful. My bags were looked after before check in and after check out.
Close to subway and great food options nearby. The tenement museum is right across the street.Knista from United States (8/10)
Very nice boutique hotel. The owner showed us his personal art on the walls and was very friendly. The young man at the front desk was super helpful and friendly as well. A train station is a couple blocks away. Plenty of great restaurants around.

The Historic Blue Moon hotel is a beautiful building! We so appreciate the preservation and the little details that went into the space. Staff was kind and there is always someone at the front desk. Location was prime and we never fell short of finding things to do. Additionally, we were surprised at how quiet it was at night despite it being a busy street.
