The Fifth Avenue Hotel Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to The Fifth Avenue Hotel on 28th Street – I mean, the NoMad area has so many new places trying too hard to be the next big thing. But this one actually gets it right. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about every detail, and not just because they had to fill a checklist.
The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re right in the sweet spot where you can walk to Madison Square Park in like three minutes (perfect for morning coffee runs), but you’re far enough from the Penn Station chaos that you won’t hear taxi horns at 2 AM. I love that you can stroll down to Eataly when you want good Italian, or head up toward the Flatiron District without dealing with subway transfers. The hotel sits on this corner where you get a real feel for how New Yorkers actually live – there’s a great little deli next door where I’d grab bagels, and you’ll see people walking their dogs in the morning, not just tourists with maps.
What really won me over was how the staff handles things – they’re not doing that overly polished hotel routine where everything feels scripted. When I mentioned I was looking for a good cocktail spot, the concierge didn’t just hand me a pamphlet; he actually walked me to the window and pointed out this speakeasy two blocks down that I never would’ve found on my own. The rooms have this understated elegance thing going on – like, the bed is incredibly comfortable (seriously, I tried to figure out what mattress it was), and the bathroom has this rainfall shower that actually has good water pressure, which you know is hit or miss in older NYC buildings. The windows are thick enough that street noise isn’t really an issue, though you’ll still get that gentle urban hum that reminds you you’re in Manhattan.
I stayed there during Fashion Week, which meant the neighborhood was buzzing more than usual, but the hotel never felt chaotic or overcrowded. The lobby has these cozy seating areas where you can actually work on your laptop without feeling like you’re camping out, and there’s something about the lighting that makes everything feel warm rather than harsh. They’ve got this restaurant situation that works for both hotel guests and locals – I saw the same group of neighborhood regulars having breakfast there most mornings, which is always a good sign. The whole experience just feels… effortless, I guess? Like they figured out how to be luxurious without being stuffy, and how to feel distinctly New York without relying on clichés. If you’re looking for a place that gets the balance right between comfort and location, and you don’t want to feel like you’re staying in a generic luxury box, this is definitely worth considering.

Top Address in terms of welcome culture, staff like Concierge Richard, Paula from 🙂 and all the others. New hotel with dignified style. Very clean and the restaurant is high class. The suite was really well furnished and equipped with modern components.

Pros: I lived 11 years in NYC and have stayed in several hotels since I moved out–the service in this hotel (front desk–special shoutout to Paola,–room service, waiters, bartenders, housekeeping) is top notch and probably its most memorable asset. I had asked for an early check-in (due to work-related purposes) prior to making my booking and they gave me my room at 8am, which is rarely the case anywhere. The location is great and the décor is stunning. The restaurants and bars are excellent. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable. You can control the lighting, TV, and room temperature from an iPad.

Exceptional facility, great interior design which makes all rooms feel warm and welcoming. However, the most amazing part was the staff, which definitely exceeds expectations that you have even for a good 5 star hotel. Really extraordinary! Restaurant and bar are amazing, and for as long as the inhouse gym is not fully functional (there are a few machines already available), they offer complimentary subscriptions for fitness classes (soulcycle, barrys, etc.). Definitely one of the best 5 star city hotels we have stayed in.
