Sonder Battery Park Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Sonder Battery Park on Washington Street, you immediately get that “I’m staying somewhere special” feeling. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Lower Manhattan’s Financial District, and honestly — the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has this modern, understated elegance that doesn’t scream tourist trap, which I actually appreciated. You know what struck me most? How quiet it feels despite being in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s the thing about staying in New York‘s Financial District — most people think it’s all business suits and empty weekends, but they’re missing out. Battery Park is literally around the corner, and I mean you can walk there in under three minutes. The Statue of Liberty ferry terminal? Same deal. Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, Stone Street’s cobblestone restaurants — everything’s walkable. Plus, you’ve got multiple subway lines nearby, so getting uptown to Times Square or Central Park is actually pretty straightforward.
The Room Experience
The room itself feels more like a well-designed studio apartment than a typical hotel space. Sonder’s whole concept revolves around these apartment-style accommodations, and it shows. You get a proper kitchen setup — not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation, but actual counter space and cooking capabilities. The bed was comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had decent water pressure. Storage space was adequate, though if you’re the type who brings three suitcases for a weekend trip, you might feel a bit cramped.
Practical Considerations
One thing to know upfront — this isn’t a traditional hotel with a lobby full of staff and a concierge desk. Sonder operates more like an upscale Airbnb, which means you’re getting keyless entry through an app and handling most things yourself. Some people love this independence; others miss having someone to ask about dinner recommendations. The building does have decent Wi-Fi throughout, and I never had issues with the self-check-in process. Parking in this area is… well, it’s Manhattan, so expect to pay premium rates if you’re driving.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the intimate vibe and the romantic walks you can take along the waterfront — Battery Park at sunset is genuinely beautiful, and you’re staying close enough to make it your evening routine. The value proposition is solid too; you’re getting that apartment-style space in one of Manhattan’s most historic neighborhoods without paying Midtown prices. Sure, you won’t have room service or a fancy restaurant downstairs, but when you can walk to some of the city’s best dining in Tribeca and the Financial District, that hardly feels like a sacrifice.
To book hotel in New York for Broadway premieres, travelers claim Times Square suites glowing with marquee lights.

Reviews of Sonder Battery Park

This is our fifth stay here. The rooftop is amazing. The gym is very good. The studio with city view is true perfection. They provide good quality complimentary items like coffee, tea, sugar, dishwasher soap, etc. Now there’s a Whole Foods store a few blocks form the building, that is very close to the Metro.

Upon arrival to the property we were met by reception worker Rob. To say Rob went beyond and above for us and our group is an understatement. He is a credit to the Sonder establishment. Checkin was very easy and can be done by yourself once you have the codes which is provided to you prior to your arrival by Sonder.
Property is very central to top attractions like Statue of Liberty, Finacial district/Wall street and the 9/11 memorial, all attractions within 8 minute walk from singers front door. Property is located near top end restaurants and is within 3 minute walk to subway with the 1, R and W line.
The apartments are exceptionally clean, spacious and has everything you need to prepare, cook, clean during your stay.
Sonder has a good gym which is very easy access with codes given. Staff at Sonder are super helpful and any issue is dealt with promptly.Fabienne from Switzerland (9/10)

The location near Battery Park was good, ideal for visiting the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street and nearby subway stations. The building is on a bit of a traffic island with highways around which takes some thought over which bridge or crossings to use when approaching from some directions.
The room was clean and smelt fresh when we arrived.
The roof top lounge and outside area was a nice place to chill while waiting to head to the airport at the end of our stay.Carlos from United States (9/10)

Great big windows and light walls and floors. The living room had a door so if you had someone using the sofa bed, there was privacy. It was nice to have a full kitchen. Great proximity to metro lines and some good restaurants. The staff at the front desk were so nice and helpful! The beds were comfortable and the living room was great for 3 people to eat or watch TV. The bathroom was very nice with lots of hot water and storage.
