I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Sonder at The Nash on 39th Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. Murray Hill can be a bit hit-or-miss with its hotel offerings, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The building itself has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with the neighborhood’s vibe – not trying too hard to be flashy like some of the Midtown spots, but clearly well-maintained.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to create something that feels like a proper New York apartment experience without the usual apartment hotel drawbacks. The rooms have this clean, modern aesthetic that doesn’t feel sterile – there’s actually character here. I mean, the kitchenette setup is genuinely useful (not just decorative like some places), and the windows are surprisingly good at blocking out street noise, which honestly matters more than you’d think on a busy stretch like this. The tech integration is seamless too – none of that fumbling around with key cards or hunting down front desk staff at weird hours. You can sort of just… exist here comfortably.

Location-wise, this is where things get interesting. You’re right in the sweet spot between the corporate chaos of Midtown East and the residential quiet of Kips Bay. Grand Central is an easy walk when you need it, but you’re not dealing with the tourist madness of Times Square every time you step outside. There’s a solid bodega right around the corner (the guy behind the counter actually remembers regulars), and if you walk two blocks south, you hit some genuinely good Korean spots that most visitors never find. The 6 train at 33rd Street becomes your best friend, and honestly, the walk there gives you a nice feel for how actual New Yorkers live in this part of town. Parking is… well, it’s Murray Hill, so manage your expectations, but there are a couple of garages nearby if you’re driving in. The evening energy on 39th is pretty mellow compared to the avenues – you’ll hear some traffic, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than anything jarring. I’d definitely recommend this place if you want to feel like you’re staying in New York rather than just visiting it, especially if you’re planning a longer stay or need that apartment-style flexibility without the hassle of dealing with actual New York landlords.

  I am very satisfied with having stayed two weeks at Sonder at the Nash. The hotel appartment was spacious, clean, cozy and convenient as it is placed in walking distance to the UN and nearly anywhere in midtown Manhattan. The appartment looked like the pictures and had a very Nordic feel to it. The building has a 24/7 doorman and feels very safe like the surrounding neighborhood. The Sonder staff would reply within a minute on the Sonder chat function and accommodate any wishes I had (incl. new batteries to the remote controle, late check out etc.). It was very easy to check in and out and to use the access code for the door. The appartment and the kitchen was well equipped, and the bed was huge and comfortable.

  The staff are very helpful and the location is good (most of the attractions were within walking distance, and close to grand central station for other locations. The app was also very useful to ask questions or for guidance and connivence.

  perfect position. close to grand central station and some of the main museums (MoMA) and main buildings (Flatiron for example is only 15 mins away by foot). the flat reflects the pictures and the staff at the reception is very helpful. also the app and the support from remote is friendly and effective.

  It was a good location & relatively quiet. It had the majority of facilities you’d need, inc kettle & coffee machine (inc a few teabags & coffees to get you going). All the kitchen equipment was in good working order & all the linen & towels were lovely fresh & clean.
