Moxy NYC Downtown Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into the Moxy NYC Downtown, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The lobby hits you with this playful, almost rebellious vibe that’s refreshingly different from the stuffy business hotels you usually find in the Financial District. It’s like someone took a traditional hotel and decided to shake things up with bold artwork, quirky furniture, and a bar that actually looks like somewhere you’d want to hang out (not just grab a $20 cocktail and run).
The location is honestly pretty brilliant if you know Manhattan. You’re on Ann Street, which means you’re literally steps from the Fulton Street subway hub – and I mean actually steps, not that “walking distance” nonsense that usually means twenty minutes. The World Trade Center is right there, Stone Street’s cobblestone bars are around the corner, and you can walk to Brooklyn Bridge in about ten minutes. What I really appreciate is that it’s tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the Times Square chaos, but you’re still in the thick of things. The rooms are compact – this is New York, after all – but they’re smartly designed with these modular furniture pieces that actually work. The bathroom situation is… well, let’s just say it’s efficient. Some people might find the open-concept setup a bit too intimate if you’re traveling with colleagues, but for couples or solo travelers, it’s fine.
You know what really surprised me? The staff actually seems to enjoy working there. Check-in was smooth, they knew the neighborhood well enough to give solid restaurant recommendations (not just the tourist traps), and when the Wi-Fi was acting up on the third floor, they fixed it quickly without making me feel like I was asking for the moon. The rooftop situation is decent – not Instagram-famous views, but you can see the East River and it’s a nice spot to decompress after walking around the city all day. Fair warning though: weekends can get pretty lively, especially during the summer months. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat, this might not be your speed. But if you want to feel plugged into the city’s energy without staying in some generic corporate tower, the Moxy actually delivers on that front. The 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, but it gets the important stuff right and has enough personality to make your stay memorable.

Friendly staffChelsea from United States (9/10)
What can I say… fun atmosphere – room amazing view (higher floor) size great for 1-2 ppl. I wish I got the names of the two gentlemen that assisted me on the 3rd floor for check in. They were so kind and helpful. The young lady at the bar was also attentive as well. Again I wish I had these wonderful ppl names that stood out to me the most. I enjoyed the DJ, it was so fun I didn’t really want to leave to go to my dinner reservations

Great location close to 9/11 Memorial, Trinity Church, Brooklyn Bridge and Seaport. The staff was so friendly and we were allowed to check in early. Very clean and comfortable. The rooms are small but quiet and comfortable.

I liked the view in my room and the automatic shades. The food was decent, but snack options were not great. Entertainment was awesome though with the female DJ, and games! Mocktail spicy marg was so good. Staff was really nice and accommodating though

My husband and I came to the city for a couple nights..we loved the location, easy access to subway, walking distance to restaurants and local fun spots. We stayed on the 13th floor and did not have any problems with noise (others said they did). Bed was comfortable and loved having the darkening shades! Will book them again!
