First Impressions

Walking into Ace Hotel Brooklyn, you immediately get that this four-star spot isn’t trying to be your typical corporate hotel. The lobby has this industrial-chic vibe going on — exposed brick, vintage furniture mixed with modern pieces, and honestly, it feels more like stepping into a really cool friend’s loft than a hotel. There’s usually some interesting music playing (not elevator jazz, thank god), and the staff actually seems to enjoy being there, which you notice right away.

Location & Neighborhood

The Boerum Hill location is actually brilliant, and I mean that — you’re close enough to everything without being stuck in the tourist chaos of Manhattan. You can walk to Brooklyn Heights Promenade in about ten minutes, and the subway connections are solid if you want to hop over to the city. What I really love is that you’re surrounded by genuine Brooklyn — there’s a great coffee shop called Café Grumpy just around the corner, and Smith Street (which locals know is where the good stuff happens) is basically your backyard. Couples especially seem to get this area, probably because it feels authentic without being sketchy.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Ace Hotel Brooklyn have character, which is refreshing after staying in so many cookie-cutter places. Mine had these big windows that actually opened (revolutionary concept, right?), and the design strikes this nice balance between minimalist and cozy. The bed was genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and they’ve got this vintage turntable setup that’s not just for show. You know what’s nice? The bathroom products don’t smell like generic hotel soap, and there’s actually decent water pressure in the shower.

Food & Social Spaces

The restaurant situation here works well because it doesn’t feel like you’re eating in a hotel. The Whitman restaurant serves solid American fare, and their weekend brunch actually draws locals, which tells you something. I spent quite a bit of time in the lobby area just because it’s genuinely comfortable — there are these communal tables where you might end up chatting with someone interesting, or cozy corners if you want to hide with a book. The coffee is legitimately good too, not that burnt hotel lobby stuff you usually get.

Why Guests Love It

What makes this place work is that it feels like Brooklyn without trying too hard to be “Brooklyn.” You’re staying somewhere with personality that happens to be really well-located rather than just a place to sleep between tourist activities. The staff knows the neighborhood and will give you actual recommendations (not just the standard tourist traps), and the whole vibe encourages you to explore the area rather than hiding in your room. It’s the kind of place where you might extend your stay just because you’re enjoying the neighborhood so much — and honestly, that 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there.

  This is a fabulous property – industrial chic design that is also warm and comfortable (not always the case). The bar/lobby space is well appointed and warmly lit; the space was active/social but not loud. It is separate from check in so you not in the middle of that traffic. You are really in a nice space. Quiet rooms and floors, great walk-in shower, lots of hooks in bathroom and room. Nice for all the winter clothing. We stayed five nights over Thanksgiving weekend. Good restaurants nearby; easy subway access. Quick trip to Manhattan via subway. Staff are great. We had three breakfasts in the restaurant – all good.
