Library Hotel by Library Hotel Collection Overview
You know what’s funny about the Library Hotel? I walked past it probably fifty times before I actually noticed it tucked into that stretch of Madison Avenue between 41st and 42nd. It’s not trying to scream at you like some of the bigger Midtown places – which honestly makes it feel more like a genuine New York discovery than a tourist trap.
The whole literary theme could’ve been cheesy, but they actually pulled it off. Each floor is organized by the Dewey Decimal System (I mean, of course it is), and when I stayed on the seventh floor – that’s literature, by the way – my room had these thoughtful book selections that weren’t just random hotel room filler. The Poetry Garden on the rooftop is where this place really shines though. Most people don’t even know it exists, but it’s this quiet little escape where you can actually hear yourself think, which is saying something in Midtown. On clear evenings, you get these glimpses of the Chrysler Building between the surrounding towers.
What I really appreciate is how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. The rooms are compact – this is Manhattan, after all – but they’re designed by someone who clearly understands how hotel rooms actually get used. Good reading lights (obviously), decent workspace, and the bathrooms have those rainfall showerheads that don’t feel like a gimmick. The neighborhood is perfect if you’re doing the tourist thing – you’re literally a three-minute walk to Grand Central, and Bryant Park is right there when you need some green space. But it’s also great if you’re here on business since you’re surrounded by office buildings without being stuck in some soulless corporate hotel. Parking is street or garage like everywhere else in the area, so don’t expect anything special there.
The staff seems to get that people stay here because they want something a little different – they’re helpful without being overly chatty, and they know their neighborhood. I asked about a good breakfast spot that wasn’t Starbucks, and the front desk guy immediately suggested this little place on 39th that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth even though I arrived early on a busy Friday, and they actually had my room ready, which felt like a small miracle. The whole place has this quiet, focused energy that makes sense given the literary theme – people seem to come here to read, work, or just decompress from the city chaos happening right outside. It’s definitely not a party hotel, which depending on what you’re looking for, is either perfect or completely wrong for you.

The hotel was so beautiful and truly boutique and felt very cosy and atmospheric amongst the hustle and bustle of Midtown. It's in a brilliant location near the big sights and also Grand Central station, which made it super convenient for sightseeing and general travel. Our room was bigger than I expected, and super clean with nice toiletries. Staff were friendly, helpful and polite, too. I loved that lots of books were available to peruse during our stay, and the lounge available to guests was such a peaceful and enjoyable spot – more books, lots of refreshments available, and very "New York". The hotel is located in the library district, close to the Public Library which is just a 5 min walk away, and near the trail with lots of book-related plaques on the pavement. There's also a restaurant attached to the hotel which serves delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner (and brunch at the weekend). Would highly recommend this lovely hotel and we would happily stay again!

Excellent front desk people, clean and comfortable room even in the “petite” size (best for one person), excellent location to Grand Central and everywhere else in mid-town Manhattan. As a person who loves libraries, let alone one located on NYC’s Library Way and a stone’s throw from NYPL, this was a wonderful place to stay! Being in NYC, there wasn’t a lot of time to read all the books surrounding me, but it made me feel instantly at home.
