Henn na Hotel New York Overview
Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first heard about a robot hotel in Midtown Manhattan, I was expecting some gimmicky tourist trap. But Henn na Hotel on West 35th actually surprised me in the best way possible. The whole robot check-in thing isn’t just a novelty (though watching other guests figure out how to interact with the dinosaur receptionist never gets old). It’s genuinely efficient, and you know what? Sometimes after a long travel day, not having to make small talk while getting your room key is exactly what you need.
The location is pretty solid if you’re doing the classic NYC tourist thing. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Empire State Building – I mean, you can see it from some of the rooms, which is sort of surreal when you’re brushing your teeth in the morning. Penn Station is right there too, so if you’re coming in from the airports via train or need to catch something to Long Island, it couldn’t be easier. Herald Square and all that Macy’s madness is basically next door, though honestly, that area can get absolutely insane during holiday shopping season. The neighborhood itself is… well, it’s classic Midtown. Not the most charming part of the city, but everything you need is walkable, and there’s decent Korean food on 32nd Street if you get tired of overpriced hotel snacks.
What really won me over was how they’ve managed to make the tech stuff feel helpful rather than cold. The rooms have these tablet controls for everything – lights, temperature, even requesting housekeeping – and it actually works smoothly. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I was worried about them cutting corners), and the rooms are compact but well-designed. You’re not going to be hosting dinner parties, but for sleeping and getting ready to explore the city, it’s perfect. The shower pressure is solid, which honestly matters more than people admit when you’re walking 20,000 steps a day around Manhattan. One small thing that bugged me – the walls aren’t super thick, so if you get stuck next to loud neighbors, you’ll know about it. But the robot staff can’t exactly march over and tell people to quiet down at 2 AM, so just pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. Despite that, I’d definitely stay here again. It’s got personality without being obnoxious about it, the price point makes sense for what you get, and there’s something oddly satisfying about the whole streamlined experience. Plus, your friends back home will actually want to hear about your robot hotel adventure.
