Lex Hotel NYC Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Lex Hotel NYC when I first walked up to that corner on Lexington Avenue, but this little three-star spot actually surprised me. It’s tucked right into Kips Bay – and honestly, if you don’t know this neighborhood yet, you’re missing out on one of Manhattan’s best-kept secrets. You’re basically sandwiched between Gramercy and Murray Hill, which means you get that authentic New York residential vibe without the tourist chaos of Midtown proper.
The lobby hits you with this clean, modern feel that’s refreshingly unpretentious. No marble fountains or overstuffed furniture trying too hard to impress – just well-designed space that actually works. Check-in was smooth (I mean, the front desk staff knew their stuff), and here’s something I really appreciated: they didn’t try to upsell me on every little thing. The rooms are compact, sure, but thoughtfully laid out in that way that makes you realize most hotel rooms waste a ton of space. The bed was legitimately comfortable, and the bathroom – well, it’s small but they managed to fit in a decent shower that actually has good water pressure. You’d be amazed how many places mess that up.
What really sold me on this place though is the location, and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way everyone throws around. Walk five minutes south and you’re at Gramercy Park (even if you can’t get into the actual park, the whole area is gorgeous). Head north and you hit the curry corridor on Lexington – some seriously good Indian food that most tourists never discover. The 6 train at 28th Street is right there, which gets you pretty much anywhere you need to go, and there’s actually decent parking nearby if you’re crazy enough to drive in the city. Evenings are surprisingly quiet for Manhattan – you get the energy without the constant sirens and honking that make some neighborhoods impossible to sleep in. I’ve stayed in flashier places that cost twice as much and felt less comfortable, honestly. The Lex just does the basics really well without any unnecessary drama, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a New York hotel.

We had issues with a sliding glass door in our room that wouldn't lock and a phone that didn't work and the staff took care of it immediately and switched our room within 15 minutes of us notifying them of the issues. The location of this hotel is perfect and makes it easy to get to the tourist "hot spots" of the city. This is our second time staying at this hotel and will be the hotel we continue to stay at when we visit the city.

For the price point of most NYC lodging, this is a great deal. Bed was comfortable, room is clean, and shower is nice. Shockingly, the room was very quiet — easy to sleep in. Bonus points for location — while its not my favorite neighborhood to hang out in, the hotel is right off the 6 train, making it convenient both for uptown museums, as well as Brooklyn. Its a very short walk to Union Square, and a medium/long but nice walk to Chelsea (or a short bus ride). Also, the staff were very friendly and generous with their time.
