What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dragging luggage through Manhattan after a long travel day.

Here’s the thing about staying on Lexington Avenue in Kips Bay — you’re in one of those perfectly positioned neighborhoods that locals actually live in, not just a tourist zone. I mean, you’ve got the 6 train literally around the corner, which gets you to Midtown in about ten minutes and downtown in fifteen. The couples who rate this location so highly (and they really do) probably love that you can walk to both the Empire State Building and Union Square without feeling like you need to plan your whole day around it. Plus, there are actual New Yorkers grabbing coffee and groceries around here, which gives you that authentic city vibe.

The Room Experience

The rooms at Lex Hotel NYC are what I’d call smartly compact — they’ve clearly thought about how to make the most of Manhattan square footage. The beds really are as comfortable as everyone says, and after testing quite a few hotel mattresses in this city, that’s not something I say lightly. You know what I appreciated? The blackout curtains actually work, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train. The bathrooms are small but well-designed, with decent water pressure and toiletries that don’t make your skin feel weird.

Breakfast & Amenities

The continental breakfast setup is pretty straightforward — think pastries, coffee, fruit, and the basics. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’ll definitely get you fueled up for a day of exploring without having to hunt down a café first thing in the morning. What I found more valuable was the 24-hour front desk and the fact that they’ll actually hold your luggage without making you feel like you’re asking for a huge favor. The WiFi works reliably throughout the building, which is honestly more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed.

This hotel succeeds because it delivers on the fundamentals without any fuss. You’re getting a clean, comfortable room in an excellent location at a price that won’t make you wince every time you think about your credit card statement. The Kips Bay location means you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from Times Square that you won’t be fighting through crowds of tourists just to get back to your room. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day without stress, and spend your money on experiences rather than just a place to crash.

  We had issues with a sliding glass door in our room that wouldn't lock and a phone that didn't work and the staff took care of it immediately and switched our room within 15 minutes of us notifying them of the issues. The location of this hotel is perfect and makes it easy to get to the tourist "hot spots" of the city. This is our second time staying at this hotel and will be the hotel we continue to stay at when we visit the city.

  For the price point of most NYC lodging, this is a great deal. Bed was comfortable, room is clean, and shower is nice. Shockingly, the room was very quiet — easy to sleep in. Bonus points for location — while its not my favorite neighborhood to hang out in, the hotel is right off the 6 train, making it convenient both for uptown museums, as well as Brooklyn. Its a very short walk to Union Square, and a medium/long but nice walk to Chelsea (or a short bus ride). Also, the staff were very friendly and generous with their time.
