Holiday Inn Express New York City Chelsea, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Holiday Inn Express New York City Chelsea, an IHG Hotel on West 29th Street, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I want to be” feeling. It’s one of those three-star hotels that punches way above its weight class — honestly, the location alone makes it feel like you’re getting away with something. The building fits right into Chelsea’s mix of old and new, and you can tell from the moment you step inside that they’ve put real thought into making this place work for actual travelers, not just checking boxes.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about staying in Chelsea — you’re genuinely in the thick of things without feeling like you’re trapped in Times Square chaos. The High Line is basically around the corner, which means you can walk off your breakfast and end up at Hudson Yards or the Meatpacking District without breaking a sweat. Penn Station and Madison Square Garden are close enough that you’re not dealing with subway transfers if you’re catching a train or show, but far enough that you’re not hearing the constant rumble of commuter traffic. I mean, couples rate this location 9.3 out of 10, and after spending time here, that makes complete sense.
The Room Experience
The room setup is what you’d expect from Holiday Inn Express — clean, functional, and surprisingly comfortable. What actually impressed me was how they’ve managed to make relatively compact spaces feel livable rather than cramped. The beds are solid (always my main concern in New York), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without everything ending up on the floor. The bathrooms are small but well-designed, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway.
Breakfast and Practical Stuff
The continental breakfast setup here is honestly better than it needs to be — they do both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to catch a morning museum opening or taking your time. I’ve stayed at places where the breakfast feels like an afterthought, but this actually feels like they want you to start your day right. There’s parking available too, which in Chelsea is basically like finding a unicorn, though honestly, you probably don’t need a car if you’re staying here.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is that it gets the balance right — you’re paying for location and reliability, not fancy amenities you won’t use. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood and can point you toward things that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. It’s the kind of hotel where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would recommend to their visiting friends, rather than just another place that showed up in your search results. For the price point and the location, it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

Great location. Just a couple of blocks away from Madison Square Garden and a few (approx. 10) blocks from Times Square. If you don't want to walk all the way up to Times Square, there are very close by Subway stations so you can move across town. The breakfast had very good options. The hotel and room were very clean. Room was comfortable for a couple.
