Hampton Inn Manhattan-35th St Empire State Bldg Overview
You know what struck me first about the Hampton Inn on 35th Street? It’s this surprisingly calm pocket right in the thick of Manhattan madness. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Empire State Building – and I’m talking about the kind of walk where you’re dodging tourists with selfie sticks the entire way – but somehow the hotel itself feels like you can actually breathe.
The lobby has that clean Hampton Inn vibe (you know the brand if you’ve stayed at one), but what I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that everyone walking through those doors is probably a little frazzled from navigating Penn Station or wrestling with subway maps. Check-in was smooth, even during what felt like rush hour chaos outside. The rooms are honestly exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and the AC works well, which in a New York summer is basically all that matters. The walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway, though you’ll definitely catch some street noise if you’re facing 35th Street. Pro tip: the higher floors are quieter, and you might even catch a glimpse of the Empire State Building’s lights at night if you angle yourself right at the window.
What really won me over, though, is the location itself. Sure, everyone talks about being near the Empire State Building, but here’s what they don’t mention – you’re also a quick walk to some genuinely good food that isn’t tourist trap garbage. There’s this little Korean spot on 32nd Street that locals actually go to, and you can hit up the proper part of Koreatown without dealing with Times Square crowds. Plus, you’re close enough to Penn Station that you don’t need to stress about catching trains, but far enough that you’re not dealing with that particular brand of commuter chaos every time you step outside. The 6 train at 33rd Street is right there too, so getting around the city is actually pretty straightforward. I stayed here during a particularly busy week in October, and while the neighborhood definitely gets crowded during business hours, it settles down nicely in the evenings. The front desk folks were helpful with restaurant recommendations too – they clearly knew the area beyond just the obvious tourist spots. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind or anything, but for the price point and location, it hits that sweet spot of being comfortable, clean, and well-positioned without breaking the bank in a city where hotel rooms can cost more than most people’s rent.

This hotel is always a good option for those who are going to spend a few days in NY. The location is very close to Macy's, Madison Square Garden, and Times Square. You can do most of the sightseeing on foot and the subway is right next door, which is a great help. The breakfast is good, considering New York standards. The room was a reasonable size and everything worked.
