Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Chelsea Overview

You know what struck me first about this Fairfield Inn? It’s tucked right into Chelsea in a way that feels intentional – like someone actually thought about where to put a hotel instead of just grabbing whatever corner was available. The building sits on 28th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, which honestly puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to Midtown chaos but far enough south that you’re not drowning in Times Square tourists every time you step outside.

The lobby has that clean Marriott vibe without being sterile – I mean, it’s definitely a business hotel, but they’ve done something with the lighting that makes it feel warmer than your typical chain property. Check-in was smooth (always a relief in Manhattan), and the front desk staff actually knew the neighborhood when I asked about dinner spots. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star property – not huge, because this is New York and space costs money, but they’ve maximized every square foot intelligently. The beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given, and the bathroom feels modern without trying too hard to be trendy. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re in the middle of Manhattan. The windows do their job blocking out street noise, though you’ll still hear the occasional siren – but honestly, that’s just part of the NYC soundtrack.

What really makes this place work is the location itself. You’re a quick walk to the High Line, which is great for morning coffee or evening strolls, and Chelsea Market is close enough that you can grab proper food without dealing with tourist trap pricing. The subway situation is solid too – you’ve got the N, Q, R, W lines at 28th Street, plus the 6 at 28th and Park if you’re heading uptown. I found myself walking to a lot of places I’d normally take transit to, which saved both time and money. The neighborhood has this nice mix of locals and visitors, so you get good restaurant options without everything being geared toward out-of-towners. There’s a decent bodega right around the corner, plus a Whole Foods within walking distance if you need supplies. Parking is typical Manhattan expensive if you’re driving, but most people staying here are flying in anyway. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but with Chelsea Market and all the spots along Eighth Avenue, you’re not exactly hurting for options. For the price point and the location, it delivers on what it promises – a clean, comfortable base for exploring the city without breaking the bank or feeling like you’re staying in some generic box. It’s the kind of place that gets the job done well, which in New York, is honestly all you need.

  • Sanchez from United States (8/10)

Room was clean and comfortable. Heating and air was easy to manage for our comfort. In shower toiletries were a plus. There was enough variety for breakfast. Each morning I had eggs coupled with either an english muffin, a waffle, or oatmeal. There were still enough eggs even on our late mornings. Lots of fixings for oatmeal too: nuts, raisins, pumpkin seeds, and brown sugar. There was also bananas and fresh strawberries. Soy milk was available for coffee but not almond milk. Lastly, they offered free bottled water to guests.
