Walking in, I was struck by how they’ve managed to keep some of that factory character without making it feel cold or unwelcoming.

You’re literally minutes from the 7 train at Hunters Point, which means Manhattan is closer than you’d think — I mean, we’re talking about a 15-minute ride to Grand Central. The waterfront parks along the East River are perfect for morning walks, and honestly, the skyline views from Gantry Plaza State Park are some of the best you’ll get of New York without paying Manhattan prices.

My room had that clean, unfussy vibe that works well for both business travelers and couples (which makes sense, since couples apparently love this place). The windows are generous — something you really appreciate in a converted industrial building — and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range property. There’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase, which isn’t always a given in New York area hotels. The bathrooms are modern and well-maintained, though nothing fancy.

The American breakfast here is solid without being revolutionary — think classic options done well rather than anything too creative. What I appreciated was the consistency; you can tell they’ve figured out what works and stick to it. There’s a restaurant on-site that handles both breakfast and other meals, and while it’s not going to win any culinary awards, it’s reliable and convenient when you don’t feel like venturing out.

Here’s what really stood out to me — this place has an unusually high number of repeat guests, and after staying here, I get why. It’s that sweet spot of being comfortable without being pretentious, well-located without the Manhattan chaos, and reasonably priced without cutting corners on the basics. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having easy access to both the city and quieter waterfront areas. You can catch a show in Manhattan and still come back to a neighborhood that feels more residential and relaxed. The parking situation is also much more manageable than what you’d deal with in the city, which honestly makes a bigger difference than you might expect.

  It's hard to find anywhere to stay near the city for 200 bucks. The room is big and clean, staff was kind and helpful, breakfast was plentiful (eggs to order, waffles, etc.) City views from the rooftop dining area.
