You know what struck me first about the Courtyard by Marriott on East 40th? It’s actually tucked into this perfect little pocket where you can walk to literally everything, but you’re not drowning in the Times Square chaos. I mean, you’re basically a stone’s throw from Bryant Park – and honestly, that park is such a gem, especially if you’re here during one of their seasonal markets or just need a quiet spot to decompress after pounding the pavement all day.

The lobby has that clean, modern Marriott vibe without feeling too corporate, though I’ll be straight with you – it’s not going to blow your mind with character. But here’s the thing: the rooms are solid, and more importantly, they’re quiet. That’s huge when you’re right in Midtown. I stayed on the 8th floor and barely heard the street noise, which is honestly impressive considering you’re surrounded by the heartbeat of Manhattan. The beds are comfortable (that Marriott bedding really is consistent), and the bathrooms are updated – nothing fancy, but everything works well and feels clean. The whole place just feels… reliable, you know?

What I really appreciated was how walkable everything is from here. The New York Public Library’s main branch is right there on Fifth Avenue – those iconic lion statues are maybe a three-minute walk. Grand Central is close enough that you can easily hop trains to anywhere, and if you’re into shopping, well, you’re basically in the epicenter of it all. Fifth Avenue shopping is obvious, but you’re also super close to Herald Square and all that madness if that’s your thing. The staff seemed genuinely helpful when I needed restaurant recommendations too – they steered me toward some solid spots in the area that weren’t total tourist traps.

Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy boutique hotel experience, and at a 7.8 rating, it’s clearly not perfect for everyone. But if you want a dependable base camp in one of the best locations in the city, where you can actually get some sleep and the shower pressure is decent, this place delivers. It’s the kind of hotel where you’ll spend most of your time out exploring anyway, but you’ll be grateful for the comfort when you drag yourself back after a long day of being a tourist in the greatest city in the world.

  The location is perfect, 2min to Bryant park and major attractions, also with metro and bus stop very close. The personnel were very nice and answered all of our queries and even helped us to book a transfer to the airport. The room is as advertised, not very big but for new York and the price was good.
