Chelsea Pines Inn Overview
You know what struck me first about Chelsea Pines Inn? It’s housed in this charming red brick building that actually feels like old New York – none of that glass and steel stuff you see everywhere now. Walking up to 317 West 14th, you’re right in the heart of Chelsea, and I mean really in it. The Meatpacking District is literally a few blocks south, so you’ve got all those trendy spots within stumbling distance, but you’re also close enough to walk to Union Square when you want something a bit more… normal, I guess. The entrance is pretty understated – you might even walk past it if you’re not paying attention, which honestly I kind of liked. No doorman hovering around, just a simple lobby that feels more like stepping into someone’s well-kept brownstone than a typical hotel.
The rooms are, well, exactly what you’d expect from a 3-star place in Manhattan – compact but thoughtfully laid out. I stayed on the third floor and could hear some street noise (it’s 14th Street, after all), but nothing that kept me awake. The bed was actually quite comfortable, and they’ve got this quirky thing where each room has different vintage movie posters – mine had some old Marilyn Monroe films, which was a nice touch. The bathroom was small but functional, with decent water pressure, though the shower could use a bit more elbow room. What I really appreciated was how clean everything felt, and the staff genuinely seemed to care about the place. The guy at the front desk – I think his name was Miguel – knew the neighborhood inside and out and gave me better restaurant recommendations than any app could.
Here’s the thing about staying here: you’re paying for location and character, not luxury. The continental breakfast is pretty basic (think bagels and coffee, not eggs Benedict), but there’s a great little café called Birch Coffee just around the corner on 27th that became my morning ritual anyway. If you’re someone who needs a gym or room service, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to feel like you’re actually living in Chelsea for a few days – walking to the High Line in ten minutes, browsing the Chelsea Market, maybe catching a show at one of the smaller theaters nearby – then honestly, this place nails it. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since parking in this area is basically impossible anyway, so you’re walking or taking the subway regardless. For the price point in this neighborhood, Chelsea Pines Inn delivers exactly what it promises: a comfortable, authentic New York experience without the corporate hotel feel.

The location of the hotel is excellent. It's a stone's throw from the High line, Whitney Museum and the West Village, our favorite area in NYC. The staff was very kind and welcoming. We loved the old movie star theme with vintage movie posters.

The staff is amazing. It is an old building with its quirks. But the young people on the staff running the place are friendly, and do everything they possibly can for you.

Amazing long-ish stay at Chelsea Pines Inn. I will definitely stay there again whenever I’m in NYC. Location is excellent, almost unbeatable: metro at the doorstop (and it is the one that goes directly to JFK), two blocks away from the river, great near neighborhoods for food and cool shops..
The staff is very friendly and attentive. There is complimentary coffee during the morning and a nice shared kitchen and patio.
The single room is quite small, but nothing that bothers a solo traveler.Suzanne from United States (9/10)
Great location and friendly staff! I like staying in non-corporate places. It definitely felt more homey.
