Cambria Hotel New York – Chelsea Overview

Look, I’ve walked past this corner of 28th and Broadway probably a hundred times, and honestly, I never paid much attention to the Cambria until I actually stayed there last month. You know what struck me first? The lobby doesn’t try too hard – it’s got this clean, modern thing going without being all sterile and intimidating. The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing during check-in, which is rarer than you’d think in Manhattan.

The location is sort of perfect if you think about it. You’re right in that sweet spot where Chelsea meets the Flatiron District, so you can walk to Madison Square Garden in like eight minutes (I timed it), but you’re also close enough to hit up the High Line or those great little spots on 9th Avenue. The subway situation is solid too – you’ve got the N, Q, R, W at 28th Street literally around the corner, plus the 6 at 28th and Park if you’re heading uptown. What I really appreciated was how quiet the rooms were considering you’re on a pretty busy street – whatever they did with the windows actually works.

The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a decent 4-star place, but with some thoughtful touches. Good shower pressure (seriously important after walking around the city all day), plenty of outlets near the bed, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything just works the way it should. The fitness center is small but functional – I saw people actually using it, which tells you something. One thing that surprised me was the rooftop area; it’s nothing fancy, but you get some nice views of the Empire State Building, and it’s usually not too crowded during the week. The neighborhood gets pretty lively on weekends though, so if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs or request a room facing away from the street.

Honestly, what sells me on this place is that it feels like it belongs in the neighborhood rather than just being dropped there. You’ll see locals grabbing coffee at the places nearby, and there’s this great Korean BBQ spot two blocks down that the front desk guy told me about – stuff like that makes a difference when you’re trying to get a feel for the city beyond the tourist traps.

Amazing location! Nice rooms, smaller, but they worked great. Great service with coffee & tea served in the morning. The street they’re on has a Starbucks at one end and a McDonald’s at the other end and with many great spots to grab something to eat or sit in to eat. Very close to subway and walkable to many key locations.
Elevators worked great and room service was also very good and so was the front desk! Overall a very enjoyable stay.
