Arlo NoMad Overview

You know what struck me first about the Arlo NoMad? It’s actually smaller than you’d expect from the street – sort of tucked into this narrow slice of East 31st that you might walk past without noticing. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. The lobby hits you with this moody, almost industrial vibe that feels very deliberately New York without trying too hard. Dark wood, exposed brick, the kind of lighting that makes everyone look good in their Instagram stories.

The location is honestly pretty perfect if you want to feel like you’re in the thick of things without dealing with Times Square chaos. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the 6 train at 33rd Street (which, let me tell you, is clutch when you’re running late), and Madison Square Park is right there when you need some green space. I mean, the Shake Shack line in the park gets ridiculous, but there’s something nice about having that little oasis so close. Plus – and this is something I only figured out after staying there twice – you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to the Flatiron District, hit up Chelsea Market without it being a whole expedition, or even stroll down to Union Square when you want that farmer’s market energy.

The rooms are… well, they’re compact in that very New York way, but they’ve made smart choices with the space. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at boutique spots), and the bathrooms have this cool terrazzo situation going on that feels fresh. What I really appreciate is that they didn’t go overboard with the “quirky” design elements – sometimes these trendy hotels try so hard to be Instagram-worthy that you can’t actually relax. Here, it’s stylish but livable. The rooftop situation is where things get interesting though. It’s not huge, but the views are solid, and it doesn’t get completely overrun like some of the bigger hotel rooftops in Midtown. Fair warning though – it can get pretty buzzy on Thursday and Friday nights, so if you’re planning to turn in early, maybe request a room on a lower floor.

Service-wise, they seem to have their act together. Check-in was smooth both times I stayed, and the front desk folks actually know the neighborhood – like, they pointed me toward this little wine bar on 28th Street that I never would have found otherwise. The whole place has this energy that feels more like a really well-run independent spot than a corporate hotel, even though it’s part of a small group. Parking is going to cost you (this is Manhattan, after all), but there’s a garage literally next door, which beats circling blocks looking for street spots. At an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly doing something right – it’s one of those places that gets the balance of style, location, and actual functionality without breaking the bank completely.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Arlo Nomad! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing short of excellent. When we mentioned that we weren’t thrilled with the view from our original room, they not only listened to our concerns but also upgraded us to a better room without hesitation. Their attentiveness and genuine desire to make us feel welcome truly stood out.

The hotel’s design is a masterpiece — modern, sleek, and thoughtfully curated to create a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. Every detail felt intentional, from the stylish decor to the smart use of space. It’s the kind of place that feels Instagram-worthy at every turn.

And let’s talk about the location! Situated right in the heart of the city, the Arlo Nomad makes it incredibly easy to explore everything New York has to offer. Whether it was dining, shopping, or sightseeing, we were just steps away from some of the best the city has to offer.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York. Between the impeccable service, stunning design, and unbeatable location, it’s a gem I’d gladly return to for my next trip!

This could be my new favorite hotel in NYC, if not for the fact that the rooms…..even for NYC standards…. are VERY SMALL.
Staff is great, food is good, beds are comfy but the rooms are smaller than anything I have ever stayed in

  • Ruth from United Kingdom (9/10)

Loved the Corner room with incredible views, the rooftop onlooking Empire State Building, the lobby scent is gorgeous ( so much so, I had to buy their diffusers from the shop) and the excellent showers.
Great location for midtown & Madison Square Garden. Excellent cocktails in their diner.

  • Christy from Canada (7/10)

The location is amazing, so close to a couple of wonderful bars and highlights. Also the subway is closeby, which makes travelling through the city effourtless. The beds were super comfy!
