The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which is pretty rare for a Manhattan hotel that doesn’t cost your firstborn.

The location is what really makes this place work, though. You’re right there between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, so you can walk to basically everything without dealing with subway delays or hunting for cabs. I found myself grabbing coffee at that little place on the corner of 50th and walking through the Channel Gardens to start my mornings – beats fighting for counter space at some generic hotel breakfast buffet. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star property, nothing revolutionary but thoughtfully done. Good blackout curtains (crucial when you’re facing the street side), and the bathrooms actually have counter space for your stuff. Pro tip: the higher floors on the east side give you decent views without the constant honking from the avenue traffic.

What I appreciated most was how the place feels lived-in rather than showroom perfect. The concierge team knows their stuff about the neighborhood – they steered me toward a great little wine bar on 52nd that I never would’ve found otherwise, and away from the obvious tourist traps. Check-in was smooth even during what felt like peak season, and they held my bags without any fuss when I arrived early. It’s not the flashiest hotel you’ll find in this part of town, but sometimes that works in your favor. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the important things really well without trying to be something it’s not.

  The staff …. when I tell you that the guests there receive white glove service, it is not an understatement! They greet you in a personal manner each time you enter the hotel; we will definitely be staying upon visiting NYC again in 2025.
