The Rockaway Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Rockaway Hotel for the first time, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star property in this part of Queens. But you know what? This place completely surprised me. The building sits right on Rockaway Beach Drive, and there’s something refreshing about finding a proper hotel in an area that’s usually dominated by summer rentals and day-trippers. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that feels more Hamptons than outer borough — in the best possible way.
Location & Beach Access
Here’s the thing about Rockaway Park that most people don’t realize — it’s actually got some of the best beach access in the entire city, and you’re not fighting Manhattan crowds to get there. The hotel is literally steps from the sand, which means you can grab your coffee and be watching surfers (yes, there are surfers here) within minutes. I mean, where else can you stay this close to the ocean without leaving the five boroughs? The A train runs right to the area, but honestly, having the hotel’s parking available makes everything so much easier if you’re driving.
The Room Experience
My room faced the water, and I spent way too much time just watching the waves from the window. The space itself is well-designed — not huge, but thoughtfully laid out with clean lines and coastal touches that don’t feel forced. The bed was actually comfortable (you never know with boutique places), and the bathroom had this great rainfall shower that felt perfect after a day on the beach. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night, despite being so close to the boardwalk action.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant focuses on seafood — which makes total sense given the location — and they do a solid job with both the food and the atmosphere. I had dinner there twice during my stay, and the fish tacos were legitimately good, not just “good for a hotel restaurant.” Breakfast is more casual but hits the spot, especially if you’re planning a beach day. The staff throughout the property seems to genuinely care about the place, which you notice in little details like how quickly they respond to requests and their knowledge about local spots.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it captures that seaside escape feeling without requiring a full Hamptons budget or a three-hour drive. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having the beach practically to yourselves in the evening, then retreating to a comfortable, well-appointed hotel. The whole Rockaway area has this laid-back energy that’s completely different from the rest of the city, and The Rockaway Hotel manages to enhance that vibe rather than fight against it. It’s the kind of place where you actually unwind, which is rarer than it should be.
New York’s hotels wrap guests in art-filled lobbies, jazz lounges, and concierge-led borough food tours.

Reviews of The Rockaway Hotel

Everything about this hotel was OUTSTANDING! The staff, from the warm greetings of the Hotel Manager, through to housekeeping were truly wonderful and I felt like they were really investing in making our stay a wonderful one. The location is excellent – Rockaway Beach is a great beach and loved the fact the hotel provided towels, beach chairs, and an umbrella, as well we had bikes to use for rides on the boardwalk. There was always great entertainment – the design was impeccable and funky, the super short walk to the ferry and train into Manhattan was super convenient, parking close by and even a great Boardwalk Deli across the street. The food at the restaurant and pool bar was delicious and the cafe had great breakfast items. I even bought a few things from the store. You could tell this was super well thought out – I feel like the hotel was crafted to deliver an excellent customer experience. I will be thinking about this venue for my future event plans also. GREAT JOB TO EVERYONE WHO WORKS AT THE HOTEL – WARM AND WONDERFUL PEOPLE.

though the location is a bit far from the City, it's near the Rockaway Pier. As a traveler, taking Ferry to explore is an adventure, relax activity.

Very comfortable bed, cute design and room decor, loved having blankets for the bed, balcony with peekaboo ocean view, good restaurant options, lobby had some kind of perfume that was nice, the toiletries were high-quality and also smelled amazing, welcome drinks, awesome selection of "mini bar" amenities (sheet mask! adaptogenic chocolate! super fun). Close to JFK.
