Elmhurst Hotel Overview
First Impressions
The Elmhurst Hotel sits on a quiet stretch of 81st Street in Queens, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s straightforward, comfortable, and surprisingly welcoming once you settle in. I mean, there’s something to be said for a hotel that focuses on getting the basics right rather than overwhelming you with unnecessary frills. The staff here takes pride in maintaining a clean, orderly environment that feels genuinely cared for.
Location & Getting Around
You know what I really appreciate about this spot? It’s actually in a real New York neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. Elmhurst is this wonderfully diverse area where you’ll hear half a dozen languages just walking to the subway. The Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights station is close enough that getting into Manhattan doesn’t feel like a major expedition — maybe 30-40 minutes depending on where you’re headed. Plus, couples seem to really dig the quieter vibe here compared to staying right in the thick of Midtown chaos. The neighborhood offers an authentic New York experience far removed from typical tourist zones.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly. The bed was comfortable enough, and there was decent space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What struck me most was how well-maintained everything felt, like someone actually cares about keeping this place in good shape. The bathroom was compact but had good water pressure, which honestly matters more than marble countertops when you’re trying to wake up for a day of sightseeing. Each detail reflects thoughtful upkeep and attention to guest comfort.
The Food Scene
Here’s where staying in Elmhurst really pays off — the food situation around here is incredible. You’ve got authentic Colombian, Tibetan, Mexican, and Thai places all within walking distance, and I’m talking about the kind of spots where locals actually eat. There’s this little Ecuadorian place two blocks away that serves empanadas that’ll ruin you for the tourist versions in Times Square. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, but honestly, with this neighborhood’s dining scene right outside your door, who needs room service? The culinary diversity makes this location exceptional for food-focused travelers.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is the repeat guest thing — and after staying here, I get it. The staff remembers faces, they’re genuinely helpful without being overly chatty, and there’s this comfortable, no-nonsense atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than just passing through. It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but if you want a solid base for exploring the city without paying Manhattan prices, the Elmhurst Hotel delivers exactly what it promises. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the bells and whistles in the world.

Reviews of Elmhurst Hotel
Sin from Singapore (7/10)
Location just round the corner of 7 metro line, with many eateries around and very large landromat 2 doors away so convenience is 10/10. Very safe 10/10 and comfortable 10/10 hotel, room very clean although housekeeping may miss 1 day and some small items but no issue once we alert reception. Reception was great and always alert of guests entering or leaving so that was great assurance on safety within hotel, again 10/10. Neighbourhood felt very safe too. Was on 5th floor room facing metro line but had no problem sleeping with the metro noise which is barely audible. Best part is the hotel rate which I believe is the best rate for NYC area 3-star rated hotels 10/10 again.

The location was great. Close to LGA and is within walking distance of the Q70 free airport shuttle stop.
Robert from United States (8/10)
It is a convenient location. They have soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion dispensers, which is better than individual products. They were able to provide a spare blanket. Very friendly people.
