avid hotels – Brooklyn Dyker Heights, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into avid hotels – Brooklyn Dyker Heights, an IHG Hotel, you immediately get that “this is exactly what I needed” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t try to be fancy but nails all the basics — and honestly, sometimes that’s way better than dealing with pretentious hotel staff who act like they’re doing you a favor. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward.
The Dyker Heights Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location in Brooklyn — you’re in a real neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. Dyker Heights is primarily residential, which means you get to see how actual New Yorkers live, plus it’s surprisingly quiet for the city. You know what’s really cool? During the holidays, this area becomes famous for its over-the-top Christmas light displays that people come from all over to see. The hotel sits right on 86th Street, and while it might not sound glamorous, you’ve got solid public transit connections and you’re actually closer to some great Italian spots than you’d be in Manhattan.
Room Experience
The room design is smart — everything feels purposeful rather than just thrown together. I mean, the beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without playing Tetris with your luggage. The bathroom is compact but well-designed, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than my last apartment. What I really appreciated was the tech integration — USB ports where you actually need them, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and blackout curtains that actually block light.
Breakfast and Practical Stuff
The continental breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but it gets the job done and saves you from hunting down coffee at 7 AM in an unfamiliar neighborhood. They’ve got the usual suspects — pastries, cereal, coffee that’s actually drinkable — and it’s included, which is more than you can say for a lot of places these days. There’s also parking available, which if you’ve ever tried to park in Brooklyn, you know is basically like finding a unicorn.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes this place work is that it delivers on its promises without any surprises (the good kind of no surprises, not the “oh great, the elevator’s broken” kind). The location gets high marks from couples because it’s got that sweet spot of being accessible but not chaotic — you can actually have a conversation on the street without shouting over traffic. Plus, you’re positioned well for exploring different parts of Brooklyn or heading into Manhattan when you want the full city experience. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day without stress, and don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything important.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel for several reasons. The cleanliness was excellent, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant environment. The rooms and the hotel are very new and modern, which added to the overall appeal. We also appreciated the Dove shampoo and soap in the rooms. Additionally, the 24/7 availability of coffee, tea, and water was a great convenience.
