Hotel Description

Okay, so first thing – don’t let the “Upper East Side” in the name fool you. This place is actually in East Harlem, up around 105th Street, which honestly isn’t a bad thing at all. I mean, you’re getting way more bang for your buck than you would in the actual Upper East Side, and the neighborhood has this really authentic New York energy that tourist-heavy areas just don’t have anymore.

The building itself is one of those classic pre-war structures that you see all over Manhattan – you know, the kind with the fire escapes zigzagging down the front. Walking in, there’s this immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere with actual character, not some sterile chain hotel. The lobby’s pretty minimal, which I actually appreciated after dealing with those over-the-top Midtown places that try too hard. Check-in was straightforward, though the front desk staff seemed like they were juggling about fifteen things at once – sort of typical for smaller NYC hotels, honestly.

The suites themselves are… well, they’re definitely suites by New York standards, which means you get a separate living area that’s not just your bed crammed next to a tiny desk. The one I stayed in had these big windows facing east, so morning light was gorgeous, though you’ll hear the city waking up – garbage trucks around 6 AM, people heading to the subway, that whole symphony. If you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs, but honestly, after a day or two it becomes this oddly comforting background noise. The kitchen setup is actually useful too – not just a mini-fridge and a prayer, but real counter space and appliances that work. I ended up grabbing groceries from the C-Town down on Lexington and cooking breakfast a few times, which saved me probably forty bucks a day.

Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk to the 6 train at 103rd Street, and once you’re on the subway, you can get pretty much anywhere. Central Park is literally right there – like, you can walk to the Conservatory Garden in five minutes, which most tourists never even see because they’re all crammed around Bethesda Fountain. There’s this great Dominican place, Malecon, just a couple blocks south that does incredible pernil, and honestly, the whole strip along Lexington has this fantastic food scene that feels completely undiscovered.

Now, I’ll be real with you – this isn’t luxury. The bathroom could use some updating, and there were a few maintenance issues (the living room AC was temperamental, and one of the kitchen cabinet doors wouldn’t stay closed). But for what you pay, especially compared to Midtown rates, it’s actually pretty solid. The 5.5 rating seems about right – it’s not going to wow you, but it’s clean, functional, and gives you a genuine slice of New York life without completely destroying your budget. If you’re the type who wants to experience the city rather than hide from it in some fancy hotel bubble, this place works. Just manage your expectations and bring a sense of adventure.

Comfortable apartment for 4 people. Good communication with Metro and bus transportation. TV working properly. Full equipment in the kitchen. Apartment with good potential for improvement.

  • Brit from United States (9/10)

The property is located within easy reach of everything we wanted to do and several subway stations. We also easily found close on street parking which saved having to pay for a parking garage. The apartment is small, but typical for New York, but it had everything we needed and was comfortable and cozy.

I loved the neighborhood. It is a beautiful apartment, and I felt safe there.
