Hotel Mimosa Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Hotel Mimosa when I first walked up to 79 Division Street – honestly, three-star hotels in Manhattan can be pretty hit or miss. But this little place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby’s got this understated charm that feels more like a boutique spot than your typical budget option, and the staff behind the desk seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. I mean, that’s already a win in my book for NYC hospitality.

The location is honestly fantastic if you want to experience real New York rather than just the tourist version. You’re right in the heart of Chinatown, which means you’ll fall asleep to the distant sounds of the neighborhood winding down – it’s not Times Square chaos, but there’s definitely life happening outside your windows. Walk two minutes east and you’re at the East Broadway subway stop, or head west toward Centre Street and you’ve got access to basically anywhere in the city. What I love is that you can grab incredible dumplings at Nom Wah Tea Parlor (seriously, go there for breakfast) or wander over to Little Italy for dinner, all within a few blocks. The rooms themselves are clean and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in one of the busiest neighborhoods in the city – I think they must have decent windows because I barely heard street noise once I closed them.

Here’s the thing about Hotel Mimosa that really got me: it feels like they actually care about the details that matter. The WiFi works reliably (trust me, I had work calls), the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a dying helicopter, and the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with a brick. The bathrooms are small – well, it’s New York, what do you expect – but they’re modern and the water pressure is actually decent. I stayed here during a busy week in fall and never felt like I was just another room number, which honestly says a lot for a hotel in this price range. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend rather than just tourists stumbling through. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid, reliable, and in a spot where you can eat better food within a three-block radius than most people get in their hometowns.

  • Monika from Hungary (9/10)

It is a very nice hotel, located in a good place in New York. It gives what a hotel needs to give in New York. Small room but this is what you need in NY, you wont spend much time in your accommodation during your stay in NY. It was clean, they cleaned the room every day, close to subway. People are very nice.

  • Joseph from United Kingdom (9/10)

  • Naomi from United Kingdom (8/10)

    Helpful staff. Extremely comfy bed

  • Emma from United Kingdom (9/10)

The staff are very friendly and super helpful. It’s a small hotel and so it feels more personal. The location in Chinatown means you are well based to get around Manhattan. It might not suit everyone who want to be located more around midtown or “smart” areas like Chelsea but for me, it offers great vfm. It was the second time I’ve stayed and I enjoyed it just as much. Much less expensive than most hotels.

  • Marta from Portugal (8/10)

The hotel is really well located. The bedrooms have the right amount of space, taking in account that it's located in Manhattan. It has all the facilities needed.

  • Joan from United Kingdom (8/10)

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was well sound proofed. The shower was good. The bed was comfortable.
