Studios Midtown Manhattan Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Studios Midtown Manhattan when I first walked up to 38 West 31st Street – honestly, the entrance is pretty understated and you might even walk past it if you’re not paying attention. But here’s the thing about this place: it’s one of those NoMad gems that gets the basics really, really right.

The location is actually perfect if you know Manhattan at all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Empire State Building (which means dealing with tourist crowds during the day, but also means you can pop up there for sunset photos without planning your whole evening around it). What I love though is that you’re right in the thick of NoMad’s restaurant scene – Eleven Madison Park is practically around the corner, and there’s this amazing little Korean place called Her Name is Han that locals go to just a few blocks down. The subway situation is solid too; you’ve got the N, Q, R, W, and 6 trains all within easy walking distance, so getting anywhere in the city is pretty painless.

The studios themselves are compact but thoughtfully designed – I mean, this is Manhattan, so you’re not getting a sprawling suite, but they’ve maximized every square foot. The kitchenette actually works (I made coffee every morning and even managed to cook eggs a couple times), and honestly, having that fridge space for leftovers and bodega runs makes such a difference when you’re staying more than a night or two. The windows aren’t huge, but you get decent natural light, and if you’re on a higher floor, you might catch some city views between the buildings. One thing to note – it can get a bit noisy on weekends since you’re in the heart of everything, but the trade-off is being able to walk to basically anywhere you want to go. The front desk staff knows the neighborhood well too; they pointed me toward this little wine bar called Proletariat that I never would have found otherwise.

What really sold me on this place is that it feels like staying in a well-designed New York apartment rather than a typical hotel room. The 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it delivers exactly what you need for a Manhattan stay without the premium price tag you’d pay closer to Times Square or in Midtown proper. I’d definitely stay here again, especially for longer trips when having that kitchen setup and the neighborhood feel starts to matter more than hotel amenities I probably wouldn’t use anyway.

It was exactly as we expected. Clean, compact and an incredible location. This isn’t a hotel but perfect for good value accommodation. A group of 5 lads from England. One room with shower room, kitchen facilities. Two double beds and bunk beds. Three nights worked out around 70 quid a night each.

The place is really close to everything (except Statue of liberty and Brooklyn bridge), we can walk, and they have a train station close as well, which is really good.

  • Joan from Spain (8/10)

The apartment is well located, direct metro to everywhere, perfect if you travel by train to Penn station.
The apartment is too small for 5 people, the same for the bathroom, too tiny.
