Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Midtown hotels, and honestly? The Wingate on 37th Street surprised me in the best way. You know how most 3-star places in this part of Manhattan feel like they’re trying too hard or not trying at all? This one actually gets it right. The moment you walk in, there’s this sense that someone thought about what business travelers and tourists actually need, not just what looks good in photos.

The location is what really sold me on this place – and I mean beyond the obvious “it’s Midtown” stuff everyone says. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the subway chaos of Herald Square, but tucked just far enough down 37th that you’re not dealing with the Penn Station madness at all hours. Bryant Park is right there when you need to decompress (seriously, grab coffee and sit by the fountain), and you can hit both the Empire State Building and Times Square without breaking a sweat. What I really loved though was being so close to Koreatown – some of the best late-night eats in the city are practically next door, which came in handy after those long conference days.

The rooms themselves feel surprisingly spacious for Manhattan, though I suspect that’s partly smart design and partly realistic expectations. Mine had this clean, modern vibe without trying to be trendy – you know, the kind of place where everything actually works and you don’t have to wrestle with the shower controls. The bed was legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the blackout curtains were a godsend since my room faced the street. Speaking of which, yes, there’s some city noise, but it’s that constant white noise hum rather than jarring honking – honestly helped me sleep better than dead silence would have. The front desk staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood, too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn for dinner, the guy didn’t just hand me a generic map but told me exactly which subway entrance to use and warned me about weekend service changes.

What really impressed me was how the place handled the morning rush – you know that hotel breakfast stampede that usually turns into a disaster? They’ve got their system down, and the coffee was actually drinkable. The fitness center is small but functional, and they keep it stocked with fresh towels and water, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places mess this up. The whole vibe just felt like they understand their guests are probably here for work or serious sightseeing, not a resort vacation, and they’ve tailored everything accordingly. It’s not fancy, but it’s smart, and in this neighborhood at this price point, that’s exactly what you want.

  The hotel and facilities were good, The breakfast was great however you may need to take it back to your room as the dining area is very small. Fridge in the room was a bonus also note there is a microwave available in the breakfast area. We ate cold pasta because we did not find this out till the second night.

  New furniture and flooring, clean room. Perfect location and even though street is quite busy, it was still pretty quiet at night time. Breakfast ok and plenty of things available, however, it could have been more healthy. Lots of sugary things.
