Motto By Hilton New York City Times Square Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Motto By Hilton? Walking into the lobby, it actually feels more like a boutique hotel than what you’d expect from a Hilton property in Times Square. I mean, the space is compact – everything here is designed with that “micro but mighty” philosophy – but there’s this unexpectedly cool, almost industrial-chic vibe happening. The lighting’s moody in a good way, and honestly, after dealing with the sensory overload that is 48th Street (especially if you’re coming from the R train exit), it’s kind of a relief.
The rooms are small, let’s be real about that, but they’re smart-small, not cramped-small. Think Japanese efficiency meets New York practicality. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and here’s something I appreciated – the blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial when you’re literally in the heart of Times Square and those LED billboards never sleep. You’ll hear some street noise, that’s just the reality of staying right there, but it’s more like a white noise hum than anything jarring. The bathrooms have these rainfall showers that feel pretty luxurious for what you’re paying, though you might bump your elbow if you’re tall – just saying. What I really liked was how they thought through the little things: plenty of USB ports, decent lighting for actually reading, and the air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train.
Location-wise, you’re basically at the epicenter of everything touristy, which is either perfect or overwhelming depending on what you’re after. I’m talking two blocks from the TKTS stairs, walking distance to Bryant Park (which is where I’d go when I needed to escape the Times Square madness), and you can hit multiple subway lines without much effort. The 1, 2, 3 at Times Square station, N, Q, R, W at 49th – you’re covered. There’s a decent coffee shop right on the ground floor of the building, which saved me multiple times when I needed caffeine before facing the crowds. Pro tip: if you’re staying here during peak tourist season, embrace the chaos or plan your comings and goings for early morning or later evening when the foot traffic dies down a bit. The staff knows their stuff too – they’ll steer you toward the better late-night food options (skip the obvious tourist traps on 42nd) and can actually give you realistic walking times to wherever you’re headed. For a 3-star place in this exact spot, it punches above its weight. You’re paying for the location premium, obviously, but you’re getting a solid, well-designed place to crash that doesn’t feel like a generic chain hotel.

The location was perfect for the Macy's parade, Times sq, Central Park. The hotel met basic requirements. Most staff were very friendly, but not all. Helped us out with a sewing kit when my bag need repair. Lifts are incredibly fast and the pre-booking of lift from lobby, though unfamiliar to me as a system, seemed to work very well except at busiest times when it failed to cope, and lift the system told us to take would not stop anywhere near our floor!

The hotel is right next door to Times Square, so you have easy access to most things, including the subway. I was worried about the noise in the streets, but it was not a problem at all! One of the reasons we were in New York was for the Macy’s Day parade and we were only a 2-minute walk from the action (i.e. 6th avenue), it was perfect! The hotel room is also clean, modern and the bed is comfortable.
