The Herald by LuxUrban Overview

First Impressions

Walking into The Herald by LuxUrban on West 35th Street, you immediately get that “boutique hotel trying hard” vibe — and honestly, it works. This three-star property sits right in the thick of Midtown Manhattan, and while it’s not trying to be the Plaza, it definitely knows its audience. The lobby’s got this modern industrial thing going on with exposed brick and sleek furniture that actually feels authentic rather than forced.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about staying in New York — location is everything, and The Herald nailed it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Empire State Building (I mean, you can see it from some rooms), and Herald Square with Macy’s flagship store is right there. The subway access is what really sold me though — you’ve got the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and W trains at 34th Street-Herald Square, which means you can get pretty much anywhere without the usual Midtown transfer headaches.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — they clearly understand that in Manhattan, every square foot counts. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range hotel, and I appreciated the blackout curtains (trust me, you’ll need them with all the city lights). What impressed me most was the tech setup — USB ports everywhere, decent WiFi that actually worked, and a flat-screen TV that didn’t require an engineering degree to operate. The bathroom’s small but functional, with a rainfall shower that had better water pressure than my apartment back home.

Neighborhood Insights

This area gets crazy busy during the day — we’re talking tourist central with all the Empire State Building crowds — but it actually calms down quite a bit in the evenings. There’s a decent Korean BBQ place called Madangsui just a few blocks away that locals actually go to, and if you need late-night essentials, there’s a 24-hour Duane Reade practically next door. The Koreatown strip on 32nd Street is walkable too, which gives you some solid dining options beyond the usual tourist traps.

Why Guests Love It

Look, The Herald isn’t going to blow your mind with fancy amenities or a rooftop pool, but it delivers exactly what most travelers need — a clean, comfortable base in an unbeatable location. The staff actually seems to care (the front desk guy remembered my name after the first night), and the whole place feels well-maintained rather than worn down. Couples seem to really dig it here, probably because you can walk to dinner, catch a Broadway show, and stumble back without dealing with taxis or long subway rides. For the price point in this part of Manhattan, you’re getting solid value without any major surprises — good or bad.
