Courtyard by Marriott New York Manhattan / Soho Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Marriott properties, and honestly, this Courtyard in SoHo surprised me in the best way. You know that stretch of Varick Street? It’s sort of tucked between the Holland Tunnel chaos and the actual heart of SoHo, which means you get the neighborhood vibe without tourists literally stepping over you to get their Instagram shots. When I first walked up, I actually thought I had the wrong address – the entrance is pretty understated, almost refreshingly so compared to some of the flashier spots downtown.
Here’s what I mean about location mattering: you’re legitimately a five-minute walk from some of the best coffee in the city (I’m talking about that little place on Spring Street that doesn’t even have a proper sign), but you can also stumble back from dinner in the Village without paying surge pricing on an Uber. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re Courtyard rooms, so you know what you’re getting – clean, functional, that familiar corporate comfort. But the windows are actually decent sized, and if you’re on the right side of the building, you get these glimpses of old SoHo architecture that remind you why people fall in love with this neighborhood in the first place. The AC works great, which honestly matters more than you’d think during those brutal August weeks when the city feels like a sauna.
What really worked for me was the practical stuff nobody talks about in those glossy reviews. Check-in was smooth – no weird upselling, no twenty-minute waits while they “prepare your room.” The elevators are fast, the hallways are quiet (crucial when you’re trying to sleep and there’s a group of finance bros three doors down), and the lobby actually has decent WiFi if you need to knock out some work. Parking’s going to cost you, but that’s Manhattan – at least they have a garage arrangement nearby instead of making you circle the block at midnight looking for street parking. The fitness center is small but functional, and there’s a Starbucks attached, which I know sounds corporate and soulless, but when you need coffee at 6 AM before a meeting, you’re not exactly seeking artisanal experiences. One thing though – the neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM on weeknights, which is either perfect or boring depending on what you’re after. For the price point and the area, it’s honestly a solid choice, especially if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character without dealing with boutique hotel quirks or hostel-level unpredictability.

Close to cute areas. Comfortable beds. Rooms are small, but typical new York. Small lobby and coffee shop. Nice staff. Felt safe.

The purpose of my stay really was just to spend one night down in the financial center and this room really fit the bill. The room was relatively large, very clean and modern with comfortable bed and nice working bathroom. Thankfully, it also had an iron and ironing board for my wrinkled clothes! The location was great for me as it was just a few minutess to walk to the financial center, and just a nice place in general. The Wi-Fi was working fast.

It is a very decent choice to spend time in New York. Most important of all, clean! The facilities are nice and value for money, considering NY is a very expensive city.
