Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside feels like discovering a well-kept secret in one of the city’s busiest neighborhoods. The lobby has that polished, upscale vibe you’d expect from a four-star property, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it — no marble columns or intimidating chandeliers, just clean lines and comfortable seating that actually looks like people use it. You know what struck me most? How quiet it felt despite being smack in the middle of Midtown East, which honestly surprised me given how close you are to Grand Central and all that chaos.
Location & Neighborhood
The location on East 48th Street is honestly hard to beat — I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Grand Central Terminal, which makes getting anywhere in the city ridiculously easy. What I love about this particular stretch of Midtown East is that it feels more residential than touristy, even though you’re surrounded by some of Manhattan’s most iconic spots. The Chrysler Building is practically next door, and you can walk to Bryant Park or the New York Public Library in about ten minutes. There’s a reason couples rate this location so highly — it’s got that perfect balance of being central without feeling like you’re camping out in Times Square.
The Suites
Here’s where this place really shines — these aren’t just hotel rooms, they’re proper suites with separate living areas and full kitchens. I’m talking about real kitchens with full-size refrigerators, stovetops, and dishwashers, not those tiny hotel kitchenettes that barely fit a coffee maker. The beds are genuinely comfortable (and I’m pretty picky about mattresses), which explains why guests consistently rave about getting good sleep here. The living spaces feel surprisingly spacious for Manhattan, and having that separation between where you sleep and where you can spread out your stuff makes such a difference, especially if you’re staying more than a night or two.
Breakfast & Amenities
The complimentary breakfast buffet is actually worth getting up for — they do a solid American spread with hot items, fresh fruit, and decent coffee that’ll fuel you for a day of exploring the city. What I appreciate is that they keep it simple but do it well, rather than trying to be fancy and falling short. The fitness center is small but functional, and there’s a 24-hour market in the lobby for those late-night snack emergencies (because let’s be honest, hotel room service prices in Manhattan are brutal). The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing — they’re helpful without being hovering, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to navigate the city.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. You’re getting apartment-style living in the heart of Manhattan, with the reliability of a Marriott property and none of the stuffiness of some upscale hotels in the area. The combination of that prime Midtown East location, genuinely comfortable accommodations, and practical amenities like full kitchens makes it feel less like a hotel stay and more like you’ve got a temporary home base in the city. It’s particularly great for longer stays or if you’re traveling with someone and need space to actually coexist comfortably.

Reviews of Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside
Trudifxo from Ireland (9/10)
Staff extremely friendly and down to earth. Having breakfast included was great as eating out in NYC is expensive. Room was big for NYC standards with kitchen area and huge comfy bed. Location was brilliant, a 15 minute walk from the Rockefeller tower and felt very safe in this area! Super clean and a really great hotel. We paid 60 dollars for a late checkout, which was worth the money we stayed till 4pm as our flight was later that night. Great option to have and really happy we stayed here for 5 nights over Christmas.

Izabella from Australia (7/10)
The hotel is in excellent location with several subway stations nearby, it's close enough that you can easily walk to Times Square, but far enough that you are not in middle of it at night. The rooms are quite large for NYC standards and the breakfast is a nice touch.
Angela from Netherlands (8/10)
The complimentary breakfast was very good, could have used some veggies. Our suite was very comfortable and allowed for cooking.
