Hotel Description
You know what hit me first walking into the SpringHill Suites Chelsea? The lobby actually feels like a lobby – not some cramped afterthought squeezed between elevator banks. It’s got this modern but warm thing going on, and honestly, after trudging around Manhattan all day, that matters more than you’d think. The front desk staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood too, which is rarer than it should be in this city.
The location is what really makes this place work though. You’re right on 28th Street in Chelsea, which means you’re close enough to the action without being stuck in the Times Square tourist chaos. Madison Square Garden is literally a few blocks east if you’re catching a game or show, and you can walk to the High Line in about ten minutes – I mean, you’ll probably end up doing that walk a few times because it’s just so easy. The Flower District is right there too, so your morning coffee run comes with this weird bonus of wholesale flower shops that smell amazing. Plus, you’ve got solid subway access without the noise that comes with being right on top of a major station.
The suites themselves are larger than most Manhattan hotel rooms, which isn’t saying much, but still. You get an actual sitting area that’s not just your bed with extra pillows, and the kitchenette is functional enough if you want to grab groceries from the Whole Foods down on 24th Street. The beds are pretty solid – I’m picky about this stuff and slept well, even with the city sounds filtering in (though it’s not loud, just that ambient Manhattan hum you either love or hate). What I appreciated was the workspace setup; if you’re traveling for business, you can actually spread out and get things done without sitting on the bed with your laptop. The bathroom situation is good too – decent water pressure and enough counter space for your stuff, which feels luxurious when you’re used to shoebox hotel bathrooms.
Honestly, the gym and breakfast area upstairs are better than expected for a Manhattan hotel. The breakfast isn’t going to change your life, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying multiple days. The evening social hour thing they do – well, it’s hit or miss depending on the crowd, but the space is nice enough to hang out in even if you’re not feeling social. One small thing that bugged me: the elevators can be slow during busy times, but that’s pretty standard for this type of building in the city. Overall, it’s the kind of place that just works without any major surprises, good or bad. For Chelsea, at this price point, that’s actually saying something.

We stayed here for 9 days as a group of 3 girls in their 20’s. We felt extremely safe being in the hotel, it was in a safe and really nice area with the subway conveniently located on the corner and another 2 blocks away. The doors are locked after 10:30pm so every guest needs a key to get into the hotel.
We got breakfast each day as it is included with the hotel. It was basic American breakfast foods with the options changed each day. The breakfast hall is small but there are 2 levels, even at its busiest we waited less than 5 minutes for a table.
The room was small but to be expected with staying in New York. We got a really nice view of the Empire State Building and Madison square garden.
The house keeping service visited each day and did an amazing job. Thanks Johana! The reception staff and breakfast service staff are also really friendly and inviting.
We were told the elevator was slow, the longest we waited was 5 minutes in the peak of the morning, and we were on the top floor. There is someone on the elevator during the peak times to get to each floor.
There is also a service available in the hotel reception to book a transfer shuttle back to the airport upon departure.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and if I were to come back to NYC I would definitely stay here again.Nicola from United Kingdom (7/10)
