DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York City – Chelsea Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the DoubleTree Chelsea, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s a business hotel on 29th Street, wedged between Madison Square Garden chaos and the trendy Chelsea scene. But you know what? This place actually gets it right in ways that matter. The lobby feels substantial without being stuffy, and yes, you still get those warm chocolate chip cookies at check-in (they’re legitimately good, not just a gimmick).
The location is what really sold me though. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the 28th Street subway station – the R and W lines – which sounds boring until you realize how much time and sanity this saves you. Penn Station is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you’re not dealing with that tourist tornado every time you step outside. I actually love that you can walk to the High Line in about ten minutes, and Chelsea Market is right there when you inevitably get hungry at weird hours. The neighborhood has this nice mix of locals grabbing coffee and visitors who aren’t all clustered in Times Square – it feels like actual New York, if that makes sense.
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, nothing revolutionary but definitely comfortable. The beds are properly firm, the AC actually works (crucial in summer), and the bathrooms are clean with decent water pressure. I’ll be real with you – the street-facing rooms can get a bit noisy, especially on weekends when people are bar-hopping through Chelsea, but honestly it’s just city sounds, not construction or anything jarring. The service has this efficient, no-nonsense vibe that I appreciate – they’re helpful without being overly chatty, and the front desk actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations. The 7.2 rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the St. Regis, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For the price point and location, especially if you’re here for business around Midtown or want to explore Chelsea and the Village without the bridge-and-tunnel crowd, it’s a solid choice that won’t leave you with any regrets.

The room was as large as can be expected for midtown Manhattan and was very clean and cosy. The staff was very friendly. The location is great in terms of easy access to public transportation and a safe feeling outside the hotel. Also, it was very quiet at night.

The location was perfect in midtown Manhattan, central to most attractions. The staff were courteous, polite and helpful. I can’t comment on the facilities, bar, restaurant, gym etc as i didn’t use them but everything else was great.
Paola from United States (7/10)
Location. Elevators were down. At first one elevator but then a second. I had to climb the stairs to get to my room. I have very bad feet. I got a little money back but should’ve been comped.
