citizenM New York Bowery Overview

You know what struck me first about citizenM Bowery? Walking up to this sleek glass tower on a street that’s honestly still got some grit to it – I mean, you’re literally steps from some of the city’s best dive bars and vintage shops, but then there’s this ultra-modern hotel that somehow doesn’t feel out of place. The Lower East Side has this amazing ability to absorb pretty much anything, and citizenM gets that vibe perfectly.

The lobby’s where they really show off – it’s this sprawling living room concept with oversized furniture and art that actually makes you want to pull out your phone (in a good way, not in a “this is so weird I have to document it” way). Check-in is all done through these self-service kiosks, which I was skeptical about at first, but honestly it’s faster than waiting in line, and the staff’s right there if you need help. The rooms are small – let’s just get that out of the way – but they’ve figured out how to make every inch count. The bed is genuinely comfortable, which matters more than square footage when you’re walking 20,000 steps a day around the city. Plus, that floor-to-ceiling window situation means you’re getting actual natural light, which is pretty rare for hotels in this price range in Manhattan.

What I really love about the location is how it puts you right in the middle of everything without feeling touristy. You can walk to SoHo in ten minutes, hit the good coffee spots on Ludlow Street, or grab late-night ramen on East Broadway when you inevitably stay out too late. The subway access is solid too – you’ve got the 6 at Spring Street and the J/Z at Bowery, so you’re not stuck with just one line if there are delays. The neighborhood gets a little quiet after midnight during the week, but weekends it stays pretty lively – just something to keep in mind if you’re a light sleeper (though the windows do a decent job with street noise).

I’ll be honest, the rooftop bar gets crowded, especially during summer evenings, but if you can snag a spot up there around sunset, the views toward downtown are pretty spectacular. The whole place has this energy that feels very New York – efficient, design-forward, but not pretentious about it. It’s the kind of hotel where you might actually want to hang out in the lobby with a coffee instead of immediately escaping to explore the city. For what you’re paying, especially considering you’re getting a proper four-star experience in one of the most expensive cities in the world, citizenM Bowery delivers exactly what it promises – and that 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a night or two there.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at various citizenM locations across the USA, including the iconic citizenM Times Square in New York. Overall, my experience has consistently met expectations, particularly with the vibrant photos aligning well with reality when it comes to the rooms, coworking spaces, and stylish lobbies. I also appreciated the ability to warm up the room—especially important during December's chilly New York weather.

I loved how easy it was for me to check in on my own and the cyber amentities inside the room was cool! The led lights were amazing and the bed was comfortable. I also liked that I could do a “black out” moment with the shades so that my room could get dark before bed. Also the art in the stairwells!
